I was wondering if anyone could make a few suggestions that might help my current migraine situation...

I've been a migraine sufferer for years, but I get them more now than ever (4-5 times a week- sometimes every day).  I used to take Inderal every day (blood thinner), but it gradually stopped working, and I was already on too high of a dosage to keep bumping it up.  Maxalt usually helps more than any other medication of the like (Imitrex and Zomig were helpful too, but had side effects).  However, due to such frequent migraine pain and severity, I'm taking far beyond the recommended dosage.  I know that's not particularly healthy, but it seems like that's the only way I can function (as I can't take time out of work as often as I get migraines).

In addition, I find that there is a connection between my sinuses and the migraines I get.  Can anyone relate?  Over the years, I've had doctors prescribe me tons of allergy meds (alegra D, zertec D, etc) and even nasal sprays, but I find that only Nyquil will do the trick (only every so often though when Maxalt won't completely knock the mirgaine- it's hit or miss).  I've had MRI's and CT Scans ... it seems like no one can provide me with a solution other than Maxalt.  And although I'm thankful that Maxalt brings about relief, I rely on it too often and take far too much medicine, and it concerns me that I'll have other health issues down the road because of that.  Not to mention, I'd definitely growing a tolerance, and I don't know what I'd do if Maxalt stopped working too!

So where do I go from here?  A specialist?  ENT?  Neurologist?  I'm not sure what to do (and I'm limited due to lack of health insurance).  If anyone can offer any suggestions ... or shed some light on my situation, I welcome that.  I'm a 22 year old with huge career goals, and my almost daily migraines significantly hinder any career progress.  I'm a little desperate here.  Please shed some light, if you can!

I am so sorry that I might not be much help.  But I can just tell you that when I used to get terrible headaches, there were foods that I had to avoid (such as cheese and cola:  they made the headaches even ten times worse)...Good luck, it must be hard! :(

You may want to see an allergist and be tested for allergies...from food to pet dander to mold & pollen. My Aunt worked with a man who ate wheat bread every morning, toast, and would get a migraine everyday-he finally went to an allergist & got tested & he is allergic to wheat so he cut that out & his Migraines went away...Since dealing with my Migraines I have heard everything from stress to neck and back issues to hormones can cause Migraines...These last two weeks I have seen nothing but Doctor after Doctor after Doctor trying to figure out why mine started a month ago at the ripe age of 35...Good Luck and keep up updated!

I would suggest you get your self referred to a Neurologist who is a Headache Specialist as soon as possible as they are best placed to understand headache in all its forms!

take care
