Hi all ,

Just looking for opinions or shared experiences.  I have had I guess what is called "classic" migraine since I was about 11 (I am now 32) I get a spreading visual aura, then nausea, light sound sensitivity and pounding head.  Usually I fall asleep but this scares me b/c I can sleep for a very long time and it feels like I pass out more than sleep.  I wake up feeling like I have been cracked in the skull.

Recently my migraines have gotten more severe, sometimes I get the aura, it will go away and come back a few hours later.  They are also lasting long, I had one last week for 5 days!  Is that even possible?!  5 Days?  Also I experience some numbness in my hands.

I have never been to a neuro but only a GP and have been given triptans that do not work.  What works for others?  Anyone else have these types of symptoms and how did you treat it?  Luckily I do not have them frequently so I don't think I need daily meds.

Thanks!

I'm curious as to how old you are?  I'm 47 (almost 48) and have had a major increase in migraines in the last three-four weeks.  Seven in since June 23.  Before that I went almost a year without them. I too get the aura.  when I get the aura, I go into a panic. I almost feel I'm bringing them on myself because I'm panicked all the time waiting for the next headaches.   I had another this a.m.  I take Advil and the aura goes away.  Now I feel foggy headed and shaky, my fingers and mouth went tingling.  I think mine might be related to stress, tweaking my neck and perhaps menopause.   Give her your thoughts and what you have found out.

I am 32.  Yes, the migraines also make me panic because I know I am going to be very sick for a few days.  I get the tingly things too.  I am going to see a specalist this month.

Howdy... This is my first post!

I had migraines for many years, the classic kind with the aura (a large field of purple color in front of my eyes just before the pain starts) followed by excruciating pain followed by vomiting, the whole thing lasting exactly 12 hours from start to finish. I have no idea why, but when I was started on Tegretol for bi-polar mood swings, both the migraines and the mood swings disappeared never to return. I have been both migraine-free and mood-swing free now for about 15 years. I still get headaches, but they are the regular kind that respond more or less to Tylenol and whatnot. I am wondering if people who do not get relief from more typical pain meds and sinus meds that get used for migraines might benefit from seizure meds like Tegretol. Incidently, I do not take the Tegretol anymore and these problems have not returned. Tegretol is a funky medication that you have to be really careful with and you can't go off of it all at once, you have to taper down gradually. Still, whatever helps. Good luck!
