hey south what have you tried taking? Have you considering asking your neorologist or pcp for any preventive medications? I responded really well with topamax. Also, some things to help majorly is to find your triggers. Easiest way I have done to find triggers is to keep one of those small notebooks in my purse and I wrote down everything i ate and drank when it was. If I had a migraine i wrote it down right along with when it started in the journal of what i had to eat and drink. when my migraine was low (to a 1 or 2 in pain) i would eat something or drink something off that list of what i had that day..if my migraine spiked, heck it was a trigger. I cant even drink too much caffine now. (my roommate thinks I am nuts cuz I wont drink more than half a cup of coffee). The caffine trigger was just a accidental finding. Was drinking drinking diet coke all day...started a migraine, layed off the soda and it went away, drank some more, it came back. I was like ohhh a trigger. I currently found enough triggers that I stay away from now to take my 16-18 migraines a month down to 5 since July. Unfortunally I can't and havent figured out how to control my allergy migraines yet. But it shows if you keep determination on finding whats causing them that you will eventually suceed in decreasing them. Also, When I first got migraines, I had something called a rebound migraine. The medications that were given worked for about an hour, then migraine came back. I was rebounding off the medication for some reason. It took 50mg of morphine and some naseau meds to sedate me til the next day (and hey it cured that migraine). Doctor orginally said she was gonna give me 10mg, felt bad cuz I smacked that pen light out of her hand when she shined it in my eyes. Then I bolted upright, grabbed the basin and got sick. She said "I think I'm going to raise that 10mg to 50mg of morphine for you now." For some reason doctors hate it when you get sick in front of them. I hate the doctors who say "what are your symptoms", every time i hear it...I hand them the bag and say "your the idiot you asked for migraine symptoms now get out and get my coc*tail"
My normal coc*tail is 40mg and 50mg phenagrin and toradol (toradol is a wonderful pain killer by injection that is non narcotic) (phenagrin is that lovely medication that stops us from the naseau and vomiting)
