I am new to this site.....typically I am on the GERD site.  I started having migraines about 3 years ago.  Migraine medication never worked for me, but here is what did.  I take bio-identical progesterone...2x a day.  In fact, I just had my first migraine in almost 4 months because I tried to save money and cut the dose in half.  My migraines are very cyclical, always around my period...having them every month or every other month.
The progesterone took a good month to get into my system, but by staying on the recommended dose...I'm good to go!!

i am 23 and had my first episode about two yrs ago. I have never had a head ache before that. my vision was the first thing to effect me, i couldnt see due to the lightning bolt type object blocking my vision, after that my hand went numb then i couldnt speak well. i was told it was probably the birth control i was on so i stopped taking it. I got another one a year late, i got a ct and it came back fine. i then was told by a doc that it was because of hormones. Now i have been getting the lightning bolt in my vision which goes away after about 10 mins then my left or right fingers will go numb. i have one right now, obviously not horrible, but i am still really scared that it could be something serious. Does anyone know what this may be? something other then a migraine?? Any meds that will fix them on the spot?

Try to relax, stress just deepens whatever your condition is!
You are taking the correct steps....
Follow through with your physician and take every test he/she recommends.
This will help rule out major disease.
Read all info on condtions similar to your's, but don't internalize!!
Eduacate yourself ...make sure to see ALL types of physicians, wholistic and allopathic.
You will be fine young lady... I can feel it!!!

I am a 38 yo female and about 2 years ago I started getting migraines. Did some research and started taking things like: borage oil, norwegin salmon oil, evening primerose oil, black cohosh, and about 7 other ones. Also progesterone cream 2 weeks before my period. If I get lazy and don't take my vitamins I get the migraines to the point of throwing up. I'm not an expert but this is what works for me. My poor 11 year old nephew gets gnarly migraines too, doctors says the underlying cause is hormones too, and we're trying to figure out what works for him.

Hi all-

Hormones for a lot of people are a major cause (or at the very least trigger) of head pain. A lot of migraines start during puberty and will either increase/decrease with childbirth and menopause, why? because all of these things are a change in hormones.

For me, I noticed that I had a severe DECREASE with pregnancy and once the hormones were starting to lower I had a major increase in headpain.

Definitely keep track of these changes and bring the information to your physician. This gives them solid evidence as to a "pattern" and can ultimately lead them to a treatment plan.
