I usually am on the fibro boards, but I wondered if anyone here had info on this. My neurologist said to avoid taking triptans for migraines (I take Relpax) after menopause, because of stroke risks. But what do you find works instead? I try to avoid taking it, but when I get a very bad headache, it seems that it is the only thing that helps.

Thanks for your help!

I am 10 years post menopausal and I am still taking Imitrex injections regularly! I would seek a second opinion on this. The problem is, studies have only been done on the triptans to age 60 and not beyond so there are no definite guidelines for older people.

However, providing your Doc is happy with your state of health other than your headaches, i.e. you have no heart disease or vascular, disease etc, there may be a possibility of you continuing with the triptans! But please please talk to another Neuro preferably a Headache Specialist about this don't just take them again on my say so!!!

Let me know how you get on with this?

take care

Thank you, Ann, I will see if I can get another opinion. There aren't a lot of specialists in our area, but I am encouraged to hear your experience. I will check it out further!
