I'm a 23 y/o female. I only experience migraines when I take too much estrogen without any progestogen to balance it out. I used to get them during puberty, about once every 3 weeks, before I started getting my period, and then for a while after. I get classic migraine with aura, numbness down one side of the body, all that fun stuff.
My question is, does anyone take estrogen? What do you normally use for contraception? I've been told not to have anything with estrogen because migraines + estrogen increase the risk of stroke.
The thing I'm wondering is, if I take an oral contraceptive that containes a small amount of estrogen and enough progestogen so that it doesn't give me migraines, will I still be at higher risk for a stroke?
I'm currently using implanon, which I want to get taken out because of weight gain. I'm considering trying combined oral contraceptives again.
