Hi my name is Jo.... this is my story...

about 5 years ago when I was about 18 years old I remember having my first "migraine" at that time I had no idea what it was... it started out with me seeing flashing lights that lasted about 10 mins, right after that I stated to feel confused (this lasted the whole time), soon I went completely numb on the left side. I was unable to talk correctly, or hardly walk. My boyfriend at the time (my now husband) was an EMT and thought I was having a stroke. We went to the ER. about 20 mins after being there the headache came too. I had lots of tests, and was released with a complicated Migraine. All the symptoms went away and didn't come back until about 1 month ago.

about 3 weeks ago same thing as above happened, but I just let it happen, cried in pain and it was over by the next 24 hours. Then this happened again last night, but it was different I went to the ER again because I could not recognize people, speak correctly, was having seizure like activity, could not see anything in my peripheral vision and I had a very slight head ache, but the symptoms were 10 times worse than the 2 times before...The head ache never got any worse... I had CT scans and an MRI.. they saw nothing, I went to the neurologist this morning and he said that he thinks I have Hemiplegic Migraines. He said it was called a SMH because no one in my family has ever had this...

Now I really don't understand this type, he did warn me that these could cause or induce seizures... Anyways does anyone else have this type of migraine.. I'm really scared that it's going to happen again, since I have had already 2 this month.. :(

Hi Jo, welcome to healing well. Wow, you are going through some pretty scary stuff. I have had migraines and chronic daily headaches since I was 18 (I am now 41) but I have not experienced alot of the things that you are and I am not familiar with SMH. I don't even know what that stands for. I hope that someone comes along that has more information for you. I wish I could be more help, but I did want to welcome you. Stick around here, it's a wonderful place with alot of caring people! Take care.
