I was just curious what the possible causes of this could be, or if anyone has experienced the same? What is happening is that I keep getting what feels pulsating and like ''brain spasms'' as if someone is poking my brain with a hot needle in the left back middle portion of my head, and it only occurs there. If I follow the top back of my left ear a finger nail length down straight to the top left middle back of my head, that is where the pain is. It has been almost a month of this happening and it comes and goes lasting around 10-15 seconds, but it is starting to happen more frequently and lasting longer. Last night it went on what seemed as of hours, with the horrible pain, but in reality lasted for several minutes, but still enough to make me go in panic thinking something was horribly wrong. When I woke this morning it came back while I was bathing and almost fainted. The pain was so intense the only release from it was to start hitting the spot with my palms over and over. A mild one happened again a work less then an hour ago. Though it is not doing it at the moment I still feel pressure from it and tension that it will be back soon. I'm 25 female, not on any meds, I am not stressed or depressed, and I have never had a history of these or neurological issues, I do have polycystic ovarian syndrome with isn't major just sounds it. I could really use some advice. I don't have medical insurance, but I need to know if this is common. Thanks for your time!

Welcome to Healing Well! It sounds like Occipital Neuralgia to me but I am not a Doc and would strongly suggest you get this checked out with a Neurologist as I am sure this can be treated efficiently!

Please don't worry I really don't think it is anything sinister!! The only nasty thing for you at the moment is the pain, and I believe with the right diagnosis and treatment you will be able to get some relief! Let me know how you get on?

take care

I've had something like that in the past. Yes, it is very scary and painful but mine resolved itself. I've had vicious migraines for about 45 years, with and without aura, occipital migraines, but I'm getting better at controlling them with bio-feedback and meds like propranonal.
Even with no medical insurance, you should be checked out. Perhaps there is a teaching hospital close to you, they are sometimes less expensive, or you can just explain your situation to the doctor. I just found this forum but I can already tell I'm going to be on here a lot!
Good luck,
Keep in touch.
