ok so i've had migraines for about a year and a half, i've seen 3 different doctors and 2 different neurologists... as im only 17 i dont get any pain medication, i've been told panadeine, 9 asprin tablets every couple of hours for this week.. have had no relief, cannot get into any doctors as its nearing christmas... havent eaten for a good 3 days due to the nausea, stemetil hasnt helped at all... starting to get very irritable, just wondering if anyone else is in the same position here? i have no one close to me that understands what im going through as they have never experienced the stabbing, burning pain behind the eye... anyone know what i can do?

Hi Smooshed789,

Welcome to Healing Well. So sorry to hear about what you are going through. I cannot understand why you have been left with such poor treatment. Were either of the Neurologists that you saw 'Headache Specialists'? If not I would strongly advise you to find one who is a 'Headache Specialist'!!!!

You describe you pain as stabbing burning, how often do you get attacks and how long do they last?

take care

the last lady neuro spoke as being a specialist, i get the attack probably on and off for a month or two at a time, then a brief break and then they will come back... they can last anywhere between a couple of hours and a couple of days

I've been dealing with terrible migraines for years and I could never find anything to help. nothing OTC ever touched the pain and pressure I felt in my head. Finally, my obgyn, who is incredibly brilliant and amazing, told me about this medication called Ponstel. I am not sure if it's just for menstral migraines but I have used it 3x since getting the script and it's worked wonders! I am actually suffering from a migraine since last night and I think I will have to take one now.

I cannot believe that in Australia, there is not a Headache Specialist that you can see somewhere, even if you have to travel a long way it will be worth it to sort your headaches out!! Seeing a Specialist was the best thing I ever did for my headaches, and yes, I had to travel to see them!!!

take care

Wow you made me remember my first migraine.... it was a rebound. I rebounded off demoral, everything. They ended up knocking me up good with morphine. Was so funny.. I had some brains intact, and knew I shouldnt be home alone so I had my ride take me to my folks house. I got up the stairs and wham-meds full effect right as I walked in the door. Split level house, how do I go down or up the stairs? Heck, down, sit and scoout. Oh but how to stand? Screw that, crawl. Use the couch to stand up tell dad I'm on the couch and I've morphine. I was out in 5 mins, so dead, I slept through the blanket being put on, shoes taken off, pillow put under head and I'm normally a light sleeper. When I finally woke up, I was 5 hours late for my nursing shift in the nursing home. I called in, and told them, had the doctor fax a note, and got forgivven as they knew I was just plain too drugged.

Anyhow, back to what I was going to tell you smooshed. Have they thought of a preventive medication? Topamax works well for me. You should be on a preventive medication daily, then something to treat migraine when appears (ie: Butabital, midrin, frova, immatrex). (hey mods, thats what I take, it isnt off my med experience). So mayble follow up with the docs again.

There are 3 Headache Clinics in Australia...

http://headacheclinic.com.au/ If you can go there, it will help you find a specialist.

tell her its a medical condition that effects your daily life, and how you do things and the only way to get help is to go there.
