Not sure if I am doing this right or wrong. I was on internet hoping to find answer regarding my condition. In November (middle) I had a weird pain in my right temple/ear area while in church. That afternoon I started having a pain directly in my right eye. It felt like someone had stabbed me with an ice pick and wasn't letting up. I finally went to an "Urgent Care" center and they did a Cat Scan and told me I was suffering from "Cluster Headaches" Gave me some pain meds and sent me home. Told me to see my primary card doctor. Went to him 3 days later (had headaches inbetween) and he told me to see a Neurologist. Made appointment for first of Dec, however had to cancel due to work related trip keep me out of town the day of appointment. Rescheduled for 1/4/11. In mean time had bad experience driving to pick wife up from work. It had gotten dark and I left office everything seemed OK. Three minutes into the drive all of a sudden all the lights (Head lights, Tail lights, streetlights, signs) anything with a light looked like they were coming at me with Lasers. Got to wifes office and told her to drive. Laser show continued and I also noticed everything in right eye was blurred. Closed left eye and continued to see Lasers. Closed right eye everything appeared normal. Went to eye doctor following week, he looked into eye and said he saw no signs of tumor or aneurism. However he recommended to get to the Neurologist and also have MRI done. Saw Neurologist last week and now I am scheduled for 3 MRI's tomorrow. one of the brain, one of the eye and on of the blood vessels behind eye and in neck. ANYONE GOT ANY IDEAS. CONTINUE TO HAVE HEADACHES DIRECTLY IN EYE, CONTINUE TO HAVE BLURRNESS IN RIGHT EYE AND LASER SHOW CONTINUES AND IS WORSE AT NIGHT. Three nights ago went to bed and closed my eyes and had a bright light in the corner of my right eye. Went to sleep and it was gone next morning. Nothing on internet describes these symptoms. Can anyone help. Scared.

I have cluster and cluster feature headaches; I often get an earache before one starts and I used to get the laser show with lights as well. Scares the h** out of you doesn't it!! It sounds like you had the onset of an aura the other night too.
It is normal to have an MRA, MRI and MRI angio; these are your standard starting points; I continue to have them every year.

The most important thing is that you are seeing a neuro and he is starting to do the work up; tell me, what did he indicate?

Cluster headaches are horribly painful. Oxygen can help cluster headaches, has your doctor suggested this?

Hi Kickerdad,

Welcome to Healing Well. Sorry to hear that you are suffering. I work on a Helpline for Cluster Headaches here in the UK, and I have received a minimal medical training from the top Neuro here who is a Headache Specialist, thankfully he is also my consultant.

I hope you don't mind me asking a few questions?

Does your eye droop on the affected side?
How long do your attacks last?
Does your nose or eye water on the affected side?
How many attacks do you have in a 24 hour period?
Do you have attacks daily?

The first line of abortive treatment for Cluster Headache is Imitrex injections and Oxygen at a high flow 15 litres per minute with a non-rebreather mask.

Preventative treatment for CH usually begins with Verapamil with ecg's before each time the dose is raised.

Some CH sufferers can also get an 'Aura' (your light show), this is rarer in CH than the usually associated Migraine! Please try not to worry, and hopefully your Neuro will sort something out for you. Is your Neuro a Headache Specialist? If not you could still find one who is!

If you want any further information about CH please feel free to email me, just click on the envelope under my name!

take care
