The nurse practioner at the headache clinic I go to recommened rubbing Peppermint Oil on my temples, back of neck and inside of my nose when I feel a migraine coming. It usually works. You can find the small bottle at a health food store for about $6.00. Disclamer Im not a MD!!!

A massage therapist introduced me to Japanese Mint Oil. It is stronger than Peppermint Oil. I rub that on my temples, forehead, and the back of my neck. I don't think I would want it inside my nose though! I keep the bottle with me and reapply it throughout the day as needed. It really helps lift the pain away and helps me get through my day. I thought I would leave my bottle of mint oil at home one day, and not do my little regimen. I didn't think it was helping that much. The very next day I had a bad migraine, that I resorted to some imitrex to resolve. I paid about $20 for 35ml (1.2 oz)

I had similar success recently with a tension headache that was so severe I had a huge knot in my neck. ONE application of Japanese Mint Oil and my headache subsided, a few days of working the knot with the oil and it was gone too. I consider it a miracle oil. I have it with me at all times now. I gave some to a friend who had a headache and she said "oh none of that natural stuff works for me". She massaged it into her neck and temples and a couple hours later I asked her how she was feeling. She said her headache was gone and that she was completely amazed.

I use the Hagina brand that I found at my local health foods and natural living store. Cost me 13.00CDN for 20ml (.7 fl oz)

I found that this does work for my regular migraines, however it does not stop my cluster headaches or my trigeminal neuralgia pain.
