Hi Everyone,

I just joined this forum after reading through many of the members posts over the last months.  It is wonderful how you exchange information and support.  I am the mom of a teenage boy whose life has been dramatically altered by this headache for going on three years.  He has NDPH and we have tried so many meds, blocks, acupuncture etc. and nothing has worked.  He is currently seeing Todd Rozen since this past summer.  We went to several neurologists before getting the diagnosis.  Dr. Rozen is a kind and compassionate physician who we were lucky to find.  My son is scheduled to be hospitalized in a few days at Jefferson.  He is anxious and doubtful about the treatment.  The plan is iv dhe and lidocaine.  Can anyone offer any experience with either or both of these so I can better support him through this?

Glad to hear your son finally has his diagnosis and is in really good hands.

There was a recent related thread:

http://www.healingwell.com/community/default.aspx?f=31&m=2016228

The later half of the thread may be of some help (especially the link to the NDPH forum).

I’ve read of many people with an NDPH diagnosis having success with I.V. lidocaine.

Best of luck and let us know how the inpatient procedure goes!

Evilflourescents,

Thank you for the response and thread.  I will let you know how his inpatient at Jefferson goes.

It is so easy to get discouraged but as long as we still have things to try, there is still hope.

Most people try to be nice but they just don't understand when you tell them that the headache is present 24/7.

Yeah, I know the feeling and sympathize. Constant pain is really difficult to deal with, especially when also dealing with the other thing that accompany it (anxiety, depression, sleep problems, etc.). It's not something one can understand until you have personally experienced it.

I really hope this works for your son.

Don't give up. Keep pushing ahead and best of luck!

Hey Missy,

I just wanted to let you know that I feel like you are doing the right thing. I am young (19), and do not know much about this problem, however, you mentioned that you are going to Jefferson and I think that is great! I am working for an International company right now (co-op experience for college of nursing) that sends international patients to hospitals in the Philadelphia area. Jefferson is our top hospital, and we actually recently sent someone there for headaches (she has a different issue), but the patient was quite pleased. I am just hoping that this post gives you some optimism, especially if we are in fact speaking of the same hospital! :).

Best regards,

I would be interested in hearing of your son's results as well. I too have contant, daily headaches. It has been ten years. I have tried so many kinds of treatments, seen many doctors and been on tons of medications and still have headaches. i am on methadone since december with little results to this day. I pray for courage and strength to get thru each day. I will pray for your son as well.

Ashiki,

Thanks for the response.  It is good to know that you think so highly of Jefferson.  We actually put off his hospitalization until school is out.  It is what he wants to do.  I think he was feeling like when he goes he just wants to be focused on that instead of worring about school.

Tmjpain,

I am so sorry that you have been suffering for so long.  I know what a beast this is and how it interferes with so much.  I will certainly keep up the postings.  If you don't mind my asking, what meds help you?

tmjpain,

I forgot to ask you about the methadone, how long is it supposed to take before you can expect any relief?

Thank you for putting my son in your prayers, I will add you to mine.
