Hi guys,
So I don't know if this is weird, but I never used to get an aura before my headaches. In the past 1-2 monthes I've noticed that I have started to though. I guess my question is this:

Do you ALWAYS actually get a headache when you get aura? And what does your aura look like?

I feel like with migraines (like with so many pain conditions), our states of mind can play such a big part in how we manage. I feel like i'm starting to get paranoid that every time I see any spots that I'm going to get a headache. It's almost a self-fufilling prophecy sometimes with these headaches!

Thanks in advance

I used to never have pain with my migraines - only the aura symptoms. However over the past almost 3 years pain has been present some of the time............sometimes at the same time as the aura symptoms or just pain. My aura symptoms include numbness, aphasia, lowered levels of consciousness, light sensitivity, confusion and sometimes I see flashes of light the size of rice. I think migraine symptoms can change over time...............unfortunately not a boring medical condition!

I also used to think that I caused my migraines by being on hyper-alert for my aura, or prodrome symptoms............took a lot of time to finally understand that I do not do this to myself. Now when the symptoms start my goal is to be proactive and find a dark, quiet spot to curl up which can help minimize my symptoms. Hope this helps? L

L, thank you sincerely, that is exactly the type of feedback I was looking for. And you right about it not being boring at all! What you mention about using your aura symptoms as a signal to take it easy vs. get anxious makes sense. I've been working on that myself. Sometimes life just gets in the way of finding a dark quiet spot though unfortunately, right? Grrrr.

Thank you again for your response

Anyone know if the different looking auras mean anything? Or do people just get different ones?

not sure if this is what you want or need to know..

i get migraines with and without aura.. classic and common.. not sure which is which

its great for me to get the aura cause i know there's still some time to take a fiorinal to stop the pain
my auras don't look like swild.. mine are bright white fire flies that dance around in my peripheral vision..
I call them my dancing fairies
started taking 400mg gabapentin and 400 mg vitamin B2 last few months.. helped some with the frequency
