My doctor prescribed me topamax for migraines at 25 mg with a scheduled increase every week by an additional 25 mg.

However, he only prescribed it to me as my migraines have been particularly bad recently (stress from school and final exams and what not). Most of the time I can treat it with over the counter medication.

Anyway, the last couple of day I've been fine without any discernible signs of the migraine. If I decide to wean off Topamax, would it be fine if I stopped outright since it is such a low dosage, or should I cut the pill in half and wean off?

I have been on Topamax since I can remember..[I'm 22]. I have epilepsy and migraines, and one summer when I was 16 I decided that I was sick and tired of taking my medication so I did the same thing. I stopped taking everything else and weaned myself off of the Topamax. I'm taking a much higher dose than you are but my side effects were heinous. I ended up with horrendous migraines almost daily, vomiting, and an outbreak of seizures. I'm sure the side effects would be different but if you believe that you would like to wean yourself off of your medication maybe put a call into your doctor, or just wait until finals are over and you can put the time into calming down. Definitely do not do it cold turkey, that's not at all intelligent. Promise.

I am so glad that you are feeling better! But please be careful. It may be that your migraines are better because the Topamax is doing it's job. Please be careful about weaning off of your medication without speaking to your doctor first. Topamax is not a drug that you want to mess around with without a doctors supervision.
