So I had problems with topamax while having a uti and i stoped. 5 days ago i started again and the bladder irritation did not happen this time oddly enough. So i am thinking of going on with topamax. One of my concerns is the following: I am currently in my last year of university and am studying in a field that requires much thinking (therapy), and therefore was wondering if topamax will make me..stupid :)
thank you

I used topamax for about a month, and I am a student in high school. I wasn't able to concentrate on anything. Even my teachers were saying that I wasn't myself while on it. Another one of my friends went on it and she suffered from memory loss. My doctor had me constantly go on higher dosage very quickly, so that could have caused my symptoms. Topamax is an anti-seziure drug, so it will completely relax your mind and you might not be able to concentrate as well.

I hope this helps

This is my second time on Topamax, both times on 200 mgs. The first time I was on it, I had awful cognitive effects. However, this time I don't have any at all. I think you have to wait it out and see. I would tell someone you trusted and have them check and let you know if you start acting "less aware." That's what I did this time around, and all has gone well. Best of luck to youl

I have been using Tompamax for 6 months now. Now that I have been on this drug for a longer period of time, I really don't think this drug is making a huge impact on my cognitive levels. I always have had a difficult time in those areas. Reading and understanding what I just read have always been difficult for me. I also have always had a difficult time with math. I have suffered memory loss previous to taking this medication from some unknown reason and was able to get it back (I believe it was from extreme sleep deprevation). As I went on this medication I started to use the same things as my doctor had me do for the memory loss It was daily brain training exercises. None of my family or friends have noticed any cognitive side effects.

I have been back on Topamax now, for precisely 9 days straight.  I decided to give it another go after my neurologist was visibly annoyed that I gave it up so quickly, and had no other good treatment options.  I took 25mg before bed for 7 days, now I've had 50mg before bed for two days.
I'm taking it for constant 24/7 "head pressure."  My neuro calls it a chronic daily headache or a NDPH.  So far I can't say I've noticed anything too dramatic.  No relief yet.  On the negative side, I have noticed stomach upset, a lot of acid indigestion and--get this--excessive belching.  I've also noticed a bit of apathy, disorientation and low energy during the day.  Has anyone else noticed these effects?
I'm taking the generic from Camber Pharmace by the way.

For the first few months I was taking it, those stomache problems that you described is exactly what I felt. My stomache hurt so much from the excess acid, that I never wanted to eat. I do not have any problems with stomache acid any more.

I also take a generic.
