I have had only a dozen or so migraines in my life. This one has been the worst. It has been 9 days. My pain feels like stabbing pain on one side, the right. I first thought it was an ear ache. Stabbing pain, every few seconds. It moves up and down on the same side and nothing over the counter helped. I actually cried, and I am over 40! The doctor today gave me Maxalt 1Omg rapid wafers..$18.66 each tablet...thank goodness for health benefits!

I took two as directed along with Naproxen 500mg. This all began at 11:30 this morning. Although the pain has diminished and the "stabs" are less frequent, I can still feel it and feel heavy headed.

If the pain is back tomorrow, should I start again and is this type of pain typical of migrain?

I have never had any tests to confirm migraine...my doctor has just said "must be A Typical Migraine".

Any help is greatly appreciated. confused

How is the pain today? If the pain continues you should check back in with your doctor. And since this pain is different from your normal "migraines" also consider scheduling an appointment with a neurologist. Migraines are a rule out diagnosis so it might be helpful to have some tests done to make sure nothing else is going on. Keep us posted please!

Hi NinnyMninny,

Welcome to Healing Well. So to hear you are suffering with this. Not sure I could say this is typical Migraine but hey I am no Doc!

You say this is lots of stabbing pain, is it quite sharp or more of a throb? You definitely need to go back to your Doc if this continues.

There is not a particular test for Migraine as such, diagnosis is made from details given by the patient, and to that end it would help your Doc to understand what is happening to you better if you kept a headache diary.

Each day record the level of pain i.e. 0 - 10. Zero being no pain at all and ten being the worst pain imaginable!!! Record how long it lasts and any other symptoms that you feel at the same time. If it is on one side of your head (which side) or all over. The type of pain, such as stabbing, throbbing, sharp, dull ache etc. Also record what medications you use i.e. the time and date and the effect if any on your pain.

Let me know how you get on?

take care

Ann
