For the past few years, I've been getting headaches. Bad headaches. Some days, I'd go so far as to say EVIL headaches.

Ok, enough dramatics. Anywho, like I said, past few years, headaches. I think some of them are eye strain, since I like to stare at my laptop screen in the dark, and the TV screen in the dark. Understandable.

What isn't understandable are the agonizing beasts that show up for no reason. I don't drink much caffiene, so it's not withdrawal. I haven't been straining my eyes, so that's out. They're fairly regular when they come, hurt like hell, and unless I down 2 Tylenol, 2 ibuprofen, and a cup of coffee with about 2 tablespoons of sugar in it before it gets going, they last a good hour up to 5 hours.

There's no sensitivity to light, sound only gets to me if it annoys me (and irritability sky-rockets, so just imagine what would annoy me), no dizzy spells or vertigo. I have up to two month periods when I don't get the headaches, then they hit and happen at least once a day for about a week straight. I have some other odd things, so either I have atypical migraines, cluster headaches, or a tumor. -.-

I read a few threads, but didn't see anything that match what I'm dealing with, so I thought I'd post it.

There's almost always a warning sign for me, like a faint pressure on one of my temples. This tells me which side it's going to be on. Most of the time, it stays in one place, but sometimes they migrate over my skull. Sometimes there's pain behind one of my eyes, sometimes not. What it feels like is someone is trying to hack through my skull with a dull icepick.

Does this sound familiar?

Hi CI,

Welcome to Healing Well. Sorry to hear you are suffering with these headaches. You are right when you say its not a good idea to look at you computer screen in the dark or the TV!!!! You are probably exacerbating your headache problem by doing this.

I would urge you to see a Neurologist who is a Headache Specialist to get a definitive diagnosis. Cluster Headache is very distinct with its sharp one sided pain and other symptoms like watery eye, and generally last for 45mins to 3 hours.

Migraine however can be very nasty and go on for some hours, it is usually one sided and lasts for some hours. The pain is usually duller than that of Cluster Headache.

Please see a Neuro who is a Headache Specialist to be sure.

take care

Ann
