I read an old post but can't find it now about taking too much excedrin. I have been taking excedrin every day -- on and off for about 15 years. I get headaches and migraines a few times per week now. I have been trying to taper off the excedrin, but if I just have a regular headache one excedrin will get rid of it and I can go to work and have a good day.  I take Maxalt for a migraine and those usually work really well.  I'm going to the Neurologist tomorrow -- feeling not too optimistic, because he's tried so many things with me but I get side effects from Topamax, Inderal, etc...  I read about Noritriptyline and thinking maybe I should try that...cause I feel like I might be a little depressed (this is an anti-depressant I guess that also helps prevent migraines).  Anyone else have luck with this drug?

@ asc,

@ swimgurl86,

Too much of Excedrin is not good. It contains Aspirin and prolonged use could lead to gastric bleeding. Thereafter if you take any drug from NSAID class like Ibuprofen (Advil) or Neproxen (Alleve), will lead to gastric bleeding.
My recommendation to you will be to stop using it as much as you can. Yeah, easy to say but hard to implement. In my case, I rely on Ibuprofen but it leads to serious gastric bleeding so I plan to start a supplement called as PepZinGI. So you could go this route. I have not tried the drug you mentioned but if Inderal doesn't work or has side effect there are Calcium channel blockers like Verapamil could work. It worked really well on me. I am just not able to find an alternative to Ibuprofen. I read up on a herb called as butterbur. There has been good research done on it that says about 150mg a day prevents migraine. Takes about 3 months to start seeing the effect. I started this supplement just last week so can't tell you for sure about the results. You could give a try though. Swanson sells it for cheapest (There is also $5 coupon for first time registrants, use it for free shipping, which is $4.99). Make sure whatever you buy, its PA-free. Those are toxic alkaloids present in this herb.

Don't give up hope. There are a lot of drugs still present in arsenal. Be meticulous in maintaining a diary to check what drugs works and how. Did you try to find your triggers?
Diagnosed March 2007 with left sided UC at the age of 30.
Currently on,
Colazal 9 daily, Imuran, 100mg + 50mg, Vit. B12, 1mg, Multivitamin, 1 tablet daily, Fish oil 1200mg daily, Vit D 2000 IU daily, Butterbur 150mg daily.

Verapamil 240mg for migraine, Migraine episode now at least twice a month,
Ibuprofen 400mg is the only solution (but leads to bleeding). Looking for alternatives.
