The current medication I am taking for my headaches is wonderful to relieve the pain, I have been taking it for 8 mths now, but it can cause kidney failure, and my kidneys have been hurting and burning for weeks now. I know I am going to have to get a new medication but I don't know if anything else will work. My headaches occur with jaw and neck pain. I have had some relief with excedrin migraine tablets but that doesn't always work so well, I have been on bupap in the past and that was not helpful. Can anyone recommened a medication that actually works, provides quick relief?? Please.... Thanks!

@ cutiepie132,
Don't expect others to guess what you are taking. If you need help, you need explain situation well (which you haven't done in your post). My guess is, you are on Topamax. That is not the end of the world. I had my share of topamax and kidney stone. Have you been following up with the neurologist? Have you been maintaining a headache diary?

Read up about migraine, there is a class of drugs called as triptans. Have you tried them? If not, talk to the neurologist about them. There are seriously a lot of drugs you could try. You just need to be patient and meticulous to help your neurologist to figure out what fits best to your condition.

LOL... Ketorolac, It's amazing for headache relief. My neurologist hasn't ever treated my headaches but I'm thinking he's the one to work this problem out with. I've been on other medications and they did not work well.

CP,

TORADOL comes in many forms; tablets, sublingual and injection.  I am wondering who prescribed your med if not your neurologist ?  To me it feels like a good idea to have one primary care Dr. that oversees your many disorders.

I am sorry to read of your many issues and  I wish you the best.

Kindly,

Kitt

Hi cutiepie,

I don't think the perfect med exists for Migraine or any other headache for that matter. I am afraid it is trial and error to see what works for you the best. To get the best treatment and advice you need to see a Neurologist who is a Headache Specialist - you won't regret it!!

take care

Hi Cutiepie,

I have found that education is the most helpful when dealing with migraines and ESPECIALLY with doctors. When I am giving a medication whether in a doctors office, er or treatment center, I always know what I am getting myself into and I always know what is medication is being injected to me. Check out this website from the Mayo Clinic. It gives you basic information about the types of drugs that are available. I personally have taken all these types of medication and some others that are outside the traditional box. Just let me know if you (or anyone) needs to what else is possible.

Good Luck and when you ever have a question-just ask. :)

Peace.
Michelle

Hi cutiepie,
I am in the same situation with you. I'm 17 years old and I get terrible terrible migraines every month
a couple times a month. I use ketorolac so much, it's a lifesaver, but what I found that also works (EVEN FASTERR!!)
is zomig nasal spray. It's so great. It relieves my migraine sometimes in as little as 10ish minutes. I kid you not.
I get migraines that are accompanied with neck and jaw pain too. Jaw pain can be related to you grinding your
teeth at night-- just a thought. Found that out about myself and got a nightguard thing and it really helped a lot.
That way your jaw isn't as sore. For your neck, you should try to find a chiropractor in your area. They honestly
work wonders. I recommended my friend to go to one when she was having a constant headache that lasted for
days, and the chiropractor said it was a nerve in her neck being pinched or something, and she hasn't had a
headache since. Try the zomig, try the chiropractor if you're cool with that idea, and maybe talk to your dentist
about getting a nightguard so your jaw isn't as sore. I really hope I helped at least a little bit! Good luck!

Also, you should look up some information on the Diamond Headache Clinic. The clinic is like MayoClinic but 50 times better.
The Diamond Headache Clinic specializes in ALL different types of headaches. It has seriously helped me out so much.
Just do a google search and maybe think about emailing the doctor (her name is Merle Diamond) and see if she can offer any advice.

Eek! Sorry I didn't mean to write an essay. I just really want to help people who are suffering like me.
