Hi All, I've had migraines for 25+ years. Mine can be triggered by hormones, weather, sinus problems/allergies and stress. I have Crohn's disease too and suspect that there may be some kind of vascular aspect that connects the CD with my migraines. At one point, that idea that allergy shots would help my headaches came up. I took the shots for 6 months and by that time I was shooting up Imitrex up to 3 times a week. I eventually discovered that it was an adverse reaction to the shots causing/making the headaches worse than ever. Sigh. Sometimes I just can't win!

I also love heat on my face when I'm really suffering. I live with my sunglasses and drive my boss nuts by turning off the lights in my office to get rid of the glare. I am a caffeine junkie and survive via a huge bottle of fioricet.

I hope all are feeling good today!

tysmboo! I Love your humor. We need that so bad. I read once in one of the tabloids that a banana peel on the forehead would help. Yep! I tried it. I love cold running water, like from the bathtub or kitchen sink runinning over my head. It seems like the cold and the movement of the running water work together to help. That is IF you can get out of bed and get to the sink to get to the running water. As a kid, I used to lay across the kitchen counter and my sister would run the water over my head with the sprayer. Such devotion on her part.

What ever. cheerios are good for your heart too!!

Here are a couple of websites you can watch to keep track of weather affects on your headaches.  I just started watching barometric pressure because this week has been terrible for me.  I notice the pressure (look at altimiter pressure on the noaa website) was dropping steadily until today.  Today I don't feel great but at least not as bad as the past couple of days.  I live in Seattle too and have for the past 10 years.  My headaches began about 10 years ago interestingly enough.  Although I do remember having them for a couple of years before moving here.  I moved from Kansas and I think allergies might've played a part as well.  I worked for a vet.  I also had a child and had my gall bladder removed before then as well as having head trama at one time.  I've tried chiropractic for years and accupuncture and massage.  They all feel good but never relieved my chronic daily headaches.

Good luck to you,

~ Christi

Christi~

Thanks for the links. I have found that helpful as well-keeping track of not only what you eat and your activities but the pressure and weather patterns as well.

We appreciate the info!!!

Hi All,

Just began revisiting HealingWell recently for SAD, but last year would visit frequently because I'm also a migraineur.  I've suffered since I was a teen.  After YEARS of failed therapy, I finally found some relief 5 years ago with a triptan drug.  Until then, things were dim. Although I take it far too often, it certainly has given me a life again.  Have also been through many "preventative" anti's, but never found any lessening of frequency or severity with any of them.

ANYWAY, came across this post about weather triggered migraines.  Weather is my #1 trigger.  In fact, researching it online would demonstrate that it's a very well known fact that it's also a #1 trigger for many migraineurs.  Low pressure, high pressure, cold snaps, fronts, "chinooks" (have heard they're bad) - our heads are truly human weather meters!   Unfortunately, it's not so easy to just pick up and relocate to our "perfect" climate.

Guess we all have to just continue to hang in there and go with the flow.  HealingWell was always a great source of information and comfort for me, as I'm sure it is for you all.

Looking forward to reading more posts from my fellow migraineurs....

Hi, the thunderstorm that was predicted 3 days ago finally happened...needless to say I have had this headache since Wednesday (it is now Friday).  Dizzy, nauseated, stiff neck and shoulders, cranky(not like me at all), TIRED, but can't sleep.

I didn't have any on hand, but I have found that Dramamine, pain reliever and tummy relief like tums helps if I catch it at it's very onset.  I was at work when this headache "washed" over me.  It only took about an hour after onset before I knew I was in trouble, and went home.  If I can't catch the h/a right away, I take a Percocet and go to bed with an icepack on my neck, all covered up..silent and dark.  Usually works, except this time the low pressure system was very slow moving and I'm still home with an extremely sore neck, no headache, and I'm afraid all the noise and lights at work will set it off again.

I am a 51 year old female still menstruating, just not very regularly, so I'm thinking the increase in my headaches could also be a hormonal change.  I used to be a chronic migraine sufferer, then I lost about 80 pounds and the h/a seemed to lessen.  That was about 5 years ago, but now I think my age is becoming a factor in the increasing h/a occurrence.

I hate just having to live with "it", cause sometimes life has to stop to recover.

Well I am so glad I checked in tonight. I have the same barometric migraines. I can always tell when the pressure is changing so much so my husband even has an app on his cell phone that he checks as well to let me know so that I can take something before it gets bad. I live in Upstate NY and the weather changes every 5 minutes. I have tried the triptipans (sp?)which didn't work and had Botox injections that actually worked however the insurance co has decided that they are not medically necessary so have denied them. Go figure. Anyways I get through them with ice & sleep. Also I must say as the botox is wearing off (lasts for about 3 mo) I have the pressure nausea and wicked migraine headaches again. I wish there was some disability or SS benefits for the migraines because of so much time missed from work. Good luck all
