Help! Lumbar puncture headache

I had an MRI done and there were spots found on my brain. The doctor wanted me to have a spinal done So on Tuesday, 02/07/2012 I had a lumbar puncture. My doctor didn't tell me how painful the test could be nor did he describe the possible side effects from the test. Actually he said I maybe able to return to work the next day. Well the day after the lp was done I had the worst headache ever! I actually waited Til Friday to call the dr and he told me to come back in for a blood patch . I had the blood patch done Friday & I felt relief immediately but the headache came back on sat night. I am also experiencing so much pressure in my head that i cant stand at times. This is very frustrating I haven't been back to work and not able to fully care for my children! Has this happened to anyone else? When will this overwhelming pressure in
My head subside? I will not have a lp again !!

Could it be that the blood patch did not hold and that you may need another one done? Luckily I've not had experience with this and hope never to. BUT, a friend of mine had the experience you describe. Her first blood patch did the trick, but I just thought maybe yours may have let go and you may need another. Just a guess.

I had a horrific experience with a GYN/gut surgery that did not need to be done (upon review), many of the procedures done were not on the consent form, risk/ benefit analysis never done; I almost died and did end up losing half of my gut system. So far so good as I am, thanks to another doc who saved my life the best that could be done, but threat of future issues remain. So, though different issues, I hear you! Are patients ever really fully informed? NO! More is being left to us that is the docs' job to tell us prior to undergoing any procedure. I wish you all the luck in the world.
