Hello everyone. I'm new here.

I am 17 years old, and a female. Today I had this sharp pain on the right side of my head again. I only remember that it happens to me every month(sometimes I have it twice a month and sometimes it skips a month then I have it next month) since last year. I tried to sleep but when I wake up I still have it. And there's no problem with my senses. I'm scared because I might have some brain tumor or something terrible that I have to go to a neurologist. I don't wanna go to the hospital. I don't want my family to know what I am feeling right now.

Any ideas? Thank you in advance for your comments.

Hi,

Welcome to Healing Well. To try and reassure you with a brain tumour there are usually a lot of other symptoms that give you a diagnosis long before the head pain begins so I doubt very much that it is that!!!

However I would suggest that you do see a Doc and get this checked out, it could well be Migraine but i am not a Doc so cannot be sure. What do you do to treat this pain?? How long do these attacks last - hours, days??

A Neurologist is not as terrible as it sounds really!!! One who is a Headache Specialist is the best - isn't it worth finding out as there is probably a very simple treatment that can help you - talk to your Mum I am sure you will find good support there!!

Let me know how you get on?

take care

Ann

Hi, sorry I'm kinda scared with what's happening to me. Been suffering from stress lately.. I sleep whenever I have it, though when I wake up I still have it. Like 7 hours of pain. :(

Hello. I am also a 17 year old female who has the same problem in the same place.

I have been getting these severe migraines on the right side of my head ONLY since I was 14. It is across my forehead, around my eye, and the right side of my nose. I get these migraines with varying frequency, but almost always at least once a month. It causes debilitating pain that leaves me bed-ridden for 4 to 12 hours. I get dizzy, light-headed, weak, nauseated, and of course I feel extreme pain on the right side of my forehead.

I don't know if your symptoms are the same or if you have the same type of migraines as me, but if your symptoms match mine pretty closely you probably do not have a tumor. I got scanned for tumors or brain abnormalities and I came out totally clean. You should still check with a specialist, though.

The medicine I take that fixes my headaches 80-90% of the time is imitrex (sp?). It takes up to 2 hours to work, but it does normally help. If your doctor DOES suggest this, make sure he gives you the lowest dose and be sure to cut it in half the first time. Why do I say this? The first time I took a whole before bed I could not move my arms or legs in the morning and my heart rate and breathing were slowed alarmingly. And my dad tried to pull me out of my bed and make me go to school, hahaha!!I thought I was going to die, honestly. I'm glad that I decided to try it again at half the dose because it was the only thing that has worked.

Whatever happens, I wish you luck. Migraines freaking suck.
