Hello, I am new to this website that a friend recommend. I have been struggling with on and off migraines for a month now along with cluster headaches. My headache specialist has been know help (I am currently looking for a new one) and I am missing a lot of work. I take medications but they do not even ease the pain. The migraines make me miserable and sometimes I have to go to the ER and the cluster headaches wake me up in the middle of the night screaming and crying followed by a very intense migraine the next day. Has anyone experienced on going headaches for this long? What have you done? Is there any home remedies I can try especially for the cluster headaches, they are so bad I almost hate going to bed at night. Any input would be great. Thank you!

Hello Kcizan,
I'm sorry to hear that you are having so much problems. It seems to be a thread on this site. I have been suffering through increasing painful migraines for 7-8 years. I have had months with 24-28 days of pain. With at least one major one a week that forces me to miss work. I'm currently working with my third nero. and I'm finally starting to get a little relief with botox. I have just finished my second round and have reduced my headaches about 20%. Lucky for me my boss use to have milder migraines and fully understands my problems. People at work will actually try to get me to go home on slightly bad days.
As for home remedies I bet you will get a lot of suggestions so I'll start with burning of mint candles (aromatherapy). Partylite use to have and really nice one that helped a lot, but of course they have discontinued that one. Fruit and passions has a eucalyptus mint and a twisted peppermint that sometimes help.
There are a lot of helpful people on this site and has been my best discovery in my battle against migraines. Just the knowledge that I'm not alone in this pain.

Good luck to you in finding relief.

My neurologist recently gave me a prescription for an injectable medication called Sumavel (http://www.sumaveldosepro.com/) for immediate migraine relief in addition to my daily headache preventative medication (topamax) after I had a seven-day migraine that did not respond to other migraine medicine (maxalt or OTC treatments). Sumavel is specifically for migraines and cluster headaches, so you may want to ask you doctor about it; it also works very quickly. After seven days of having nothing work, my headache went from an 8 or 9 out of 10 down to a 2/3 within 2 hours of getting the shot.
Crohn's Diagnosis 2/2006. Anxiety-based IBS-D. Inflammatory arthritis. Chronic daily headaches + migraines. Currently taking 2g Pentasa, 100mg Trazadone, 1mg Klonopin, titrating up to 100mg topamax, maxalt for migraines (as needed), lorzone for pain (as needed)

I will have to look into it thanks, my current headache specialist is not helpful at all, she is rude, talks to me like I am stupid, and does not understand I need to work full time to support my family and the college career I am pursuing. She always says, just stay home and relax. I was taking relpax which was helpful, I would get six pills a month because of my insurance and she said I was abusing it and took it away...it was the only medication that got rid of the horrible migraines I got and broke the continuous cycle. I really need to find someone that is more helpful.

Hi I suffered from migraine headaches and dizziness all my life. 5 years ago I discovered that I was Salicylate Intolerant, allergic to aspirin and all foods containing salicylates. Aspirin is a salicylate that comes form the bark of the willow tree. All plants produce salicylates as a natural insecticide. It is in things likes fruit, most vegetables, tomato sauce, olive oil and many more. Theres a good list of foods in the book,"Salicylate Intolerance and The Healthier I Ate the Sicker I Got."

Right before I hit bottom I had such a pain in my right eye that I went for a CAT scan to rule out a tumor. Once I went on a low sal diet I got rid of my headaches, dizziness, nausea, neck pain, arthritis, asthma, dry eyes, nosebleeds and a foggy headed feeling.
Check out sickfromsalicylates.com
No one should just accept a diagnosis of Cluster Headaches when they can prevent them by finding out whats causing them. Its usually a food intolerance. Unfortunately there is no test for Salicylate Intolerance because it isnt an allergy. Get off the medications that are probably making you sicker. You have to go off the foods that are high and very high in sals and see how you feel. Good luck, Joan

Kcizan, in response to your initial question, there are a great number of us who have suffered with painful headaches for a long time. Some for a few years and some for decades (I'm just shy of 10 years myself). There's a minority of patients but a fair representation on this board of people who have totally unrelenting headaches--meaning 60 seconds /minute, 60 minutes / hour, 24 hours /day, 365 days /year, etc. I fall into this category as well.

If you search the forum for threads talking about continuous headache, or New Daily Persistent Headache, or many of the threads that I've posted in, I imagine that you'll quickly feel much less alone in your suffering.

Take care,

Ben

Hi there, I would like to offer you my book to read for free. Send me an email if you would like to look at my book. My email address is under my username. I was a chronic migraine sufferer for years till the stage of averaging 26 bad migraines a month. This took me to rock bottom. There is a way out, we can heal from migraines, I have been there.
Hope to hear from you Michelle.
