Hi there!

I'm new to the forum world.. But I'm in terrible need of guidance.. I have been suffering from a daily headache for the last 5 months.. about once weekly it turns into a migraine. I have lost my job.. Am not able to take care of my home without assistance.. Have to have my children watched by my in-laws often because of the pain.. I have had several tests done.. Numerous blood tests.. LP.. CT.. MRI.. Tried several different medications.. and Doctors! Ruled out everything from MS to Giant Cell Arteritis... I'm wondering if there is anyone out there who has/is experienced/ing the same thing out there! I would love to talk to you! If you've found relief I would still love to hear about it! I'm at my wits end...

Thank you so much!

OK, thats not helping.

What kind of headache do you have? describe the pain, throbbing, stabbing, pounding etc.
How do you figure out a headache turning into migraine?
What other symptoms are associated with it? Nausea, sparkles in front of eye, dizziness etc.
Have you tried any OTC meds like Advil, Bayer Migraine, Alleve?
What tests have you done? Apart from the one mentioned.
Which medications (and their dose) have you tried?
Have you maintained a headache diary to figure out your triggers? May be your one of your daily food or coffee could be the triggers.
Do you have any other medical condition? If yes, what is it and what meds do you take.
How old are you?
What do you do for living? (what was your job?)

May be we could help then.
Diagnosed March 2007 with left sided UC at the age of 30.
Currently on,
Colazal 9 daily, Imuran, 200mg daily, Vit. B12, 1mg, Multivitamin, 1 tablet daily, Fish oil 2400mg daily, Vit D 2000 IU daily.

Verapamil 320mg for migraine, Migraine episode now at least 4X a month,
Nabumetone 750mg as an abortive, so far so good with GI side effects.

What kind of headache do you have? describe the pain, throbbing, stabbing, pounding etc.
- It’s a general throbbing when it’s in the front of my head. Once it reaches the back of my head it becomes this type of radiating sting/stabbing.

How do you figure out a headache turning into migraine?
-My headache is always in the front of my head. Kind of where you’d see a woman wear a headband and forward. On a scale of 1-10 it's always at least a 6 when it’s there. As the headache moves further into the back of my head it becomes more painful until it reaches my occiput it becomes a full blown ten, or higher, and I’m in the emergency room with my fingers in my ears and a blanket over my face.

What other symptoms are associated with it? Nausea, sparkles in front of eye, dizziness etc.
-I always have flashes when I turn my eyes. It’s apparently a result of my Optic Neuritis (Began in mid July and which has been treated and cleared as of last month). I’m only nauseated once my headache moves further into the back of my head. I am not nauseated all the time.

Have you tried any OTC meds like Advil, Bayer Migraine, Alleve?
-Excedrine, Tylenol, Advil, Aleve, Excedrine migraine, Ibuprofen.

What tests have you done? Apart from the one mentioned.
-I have had well over 200 blood tests done according to my neurologist.. What all she’s tested for I am unaware. She just hands me a lump of paperwork and explains that all the levels look normal. All that’s been done is what I listed. Besides the MRI, I’ve had two of those, with and without contrast. Then there's your brain test they do almost every appointment; "touch your finger to your nose then touch my finger."

Which medications (and their dose) have you tried?
-Flexeril 10mg, Topomax 100mg, Gabapentin 600mg, Lyrica 50mg, Percocet 5/325mg, Tramodol 100mg, Fioricet 50/325/40mg, Amerge 2.5mg, Elavil 25mg, Imatrex 100mg, so far.

Have you maintained a headache diary to figure out your triggers? May be your one of your daily food or coffee could be the triggers.
-I have been maintaining a headache diary since June 26th, but my neurologist has asked me to document only the level of headache, and what I’ve used to treat the headache. I only have a large cup of coffee in the morning, no further caffeine intake.

Do you have any other medical condition? If yes, what is it and what meds do you take.
-I am currently taking the Flexeril, Fioricet, Percocet, and Amerge (Listed above) to try to manage my headaches.

How old are you?
-I am 26

What do you do for living? (what was your job?)
-I was a Personal Care staff at a group home. I have been unemployed since early July from this job d/t these headaches.

Thank you.

Just out of curiosity, what is your average blood pressure?

From the limited info, my first thought is adrenal fatigue.. I would eliminate all stimulants including ALL coffee, alcohol, tobacco, and sugar. I would also supplement with magnesium.

Most likely, there is a spinal subluxation at C1 that would need to be corrected as well.

Avg BP is around 110/75, sometimes lower. Never higher. Thanks for the pointers. It's just so hard to know where to go from here..

Thanks.

Unless you are in awesome cardio shape, your BP is relatively low... which is another sign of adrenal fatigue. Please look into it. I think if you address some of the risk factors, you might be surprised at the results over time.

Take a look at
http://ask.metafilter.com/222009/Best-way-to-track-migraine-data
http://ask.metafilter.com/225529/Best-headachetracking-app

You seem like just a tricky patient as I am. Record your headaches, describe as much details as you can. Lucky you that Percocet that give you relief (zero effect on my headache) but its not good to be on Percocet at the age of 26.

How much do you weigh? Most likely you are a thin stature, please confirm. What are your food habits? You need to find a trigger, if any. Maintain a food diary as well. Record each and every thing, I mean, literally. You can not be on BP meds as your BP is already low.

Get an appointment with reputed Headache specialist, preferably connected to an academic/research institution.

Jason makes an interesting point on Magnesium. I started taking Mg-Citrate (not oxide, its rock, just waste) and B2. I haven't seen much effect but bought Mg Oil and wow, it does wonders. At the same time, I admit that my posture is bad... Talk to your neuro/headache specialist about it. I take Mg-Citrate and B2 200mg in AM and PM.
