I have fibromyalgia and I usually post in that section, but I wanted to ask a few questions about migraine headaches. I have never technically been diagnosed with migraines, but I know that is what these headaches pretty much are that I get. (and I don't get them to often)
Last night I woke up at 3 am (hubby gets up to go to work at this time) and my heading was hurting, also my neck. I could tell it was going to be bad and after I got up and went to the bathroom it came on full blast then.(from movement I guess) My question is, does anyone get hot flashes with their headaches? I started feeling really hot and clammy.  It's a quick hot flash and somewhat burning. I started to get a little sweaty, nauseated, shaky, sensitive to light and sound, and just felt "outta place in my body". The hot flash would come and go.  I took some pain meds and had to take a bc, (I know they are not good, but it works fast) Once I laid down, I had some muscle tension all over, and small jerky movements like my muscles wanted to stay tense. lol, hard to explain.
It was bad and it kinda scared me, I almost dialed emergency number. I don't get these to often, but when I do they are bad. It was all I could do not to throw up.
I am not on any meds, pretty good health other than fibro. I had a brain mri done last year to rule out ms and it was negative for anything unusual.
My headache is finally getting better, just feel a slight pounding when I get up and move around. Does migraines leave you feeling weird and tired when it finaly starts going away?
Sorry so many questions, just wanted to know if this was normal migraine stuff.

Hi Karen,

This does sound like normal migraine stuff to me, if that makes you feel any better. I get one of these about once a week.

It takes a lot of energy to lift a leg and sometimes I just have to forget about trying to walk or sitting up. I can bump into walls like a ball in a pinball game in my own house if I do get to walk (it happens without the fun of drinking the night before :( ). I usually get what I have called "black pixel vision" which may even include going seconds with absolutely no vision. When the bad ones hit, they can knock me for a loop. It will usually takes me hours of sleep just to recover from an incident of migraine. I usually feel like a raggedy Annie doll with all the stuffing pulled out.

I have noticed that symptoms come in a wide range (for the longest time I had convinced myself I was imagining what I was feeling and dismissing it - I have taken a whole different view of my migraines since I have found this forum and read what others are feeling). For example I don't get a hot flash for my whole body, but my face can suddenly get hot before I get a migraine (I have checked and this usually involves a drop in my blood pressure - isn't that weird). Then again, I can sometime get a very bad chill during a migraine.

Sorry I can't tell you there is a magic answer. It has taken many years, investigation and survival for me to get to a point with some days without pain. It does seem like the only way to handle your migraine is trail and error and notes. Every person seems to respond differently to treatment and triggers. As I'm sure you will read in many of the post in this forum - logging, logging, logging is the only way to really discover the way to manage your migraines.
