Hi,

I have  suffered migraines since I was 7 yrs. old.  I have had success with Zomig.  but over the last 6-8 months the frquency has been increasing with the weather changes we have had.  I have always been affected by the weather.  I have many drug allergies and do not tolerate drugs well.  I am currently at 50 mg. of topomax and am having difficulty with side effects.  Any ideas out there?  confused

Hi there, I am a new member also. I don't have any ideas regarding topomax because I haven't been on it because of the possible side effects. Med wise I take Zomig which I find doesn't have any major or noticable effect on my migrane. I take Panadiene-forte(codeine/paracetamol) but because my body is quite used to those sort of drugs it tends not to work also. So I take Nurofen Plus which sometimes helps eleviate the strong pain in my neck that I get with migraines. It never completely take the pain away and only sometimes works but as soon as it wears off the pain is back again.
I don't know whether you have tried anti-inflammatories but they can help me occassionally. Only certain ones do though. Sorry if I didn't help.

I'm new to this joint also :) but my experience with topomax is this..

I am on topamax 200mg daily, I had to build my way up to the dose. The side effects that I had are tingling in hands fingers numbness in face especially around mouth and nose, and weight loss i'd say about 25 pounds. As for the crying spells that others mentioned I had none of that it actually helped me with my depression and I was able to come off of prozac. I have been on it for over 6 months now and the tingling has gone away and the weightloss has platued...my my headaches have gone from 5-6 a week to 2 maybe 3 a week so it was made a great big difference in my life!! I take it a night before I go to bed.

I am also in transition between meds for acute headaches, I am supossed to be taking DHE injections but that are horrible so I put myself back on the Zomig nasal spray which doesn't take the headache away completely but gets me to a point were I can function. I just haven't made the appt with my Dr to get something else new..

I hope some of this info is helpfull..

Jess

Hi and Welcome to HealingWell! tongue

I was taking Topamax for seizures due to a stroke and migraines with auras.  I realize everyone is different and that the side effects are also different with everyone. I couldn't tolerate the Topamax at even the starting dosage.  Wish I could be more helpful...

Hugs, Teri
