For the last 90 days, I have had a strange headache that feels like a vice around the back of my head and neck. It's not brutal pain but certainly discomforting. I have been to my doctor three times and he has prescribed everything from antidepressants to aspirin with caffeine. Nothing, including aspirin or pain relievers, seem to work. The pain extends to my neck and feels sore like inflammation. Next Monday, I'm going to a neurologist who is allegedly a headache expert. I'm perplexed by all of this. I don't feel depressed but admittedly am in the most stressful stage of my career. Perhaps that's it. The only thing that works is a few drinks. I drink a few beers and the pain does subside. Regardless, I had to join this forum to see if I'm crazy or if anybody has any advice for me.

Thanks,

Hi, Thanks for joining us here. You are certainly not crazy and we all here know exactly what you are going through. I have been a sufferer for 19 yrs, I am 29yrs old. Every day headaches and migraines and pain killers don't work for me either, not even narcotics. Wait and see what the neurologist says, it could be just stress. If a few drinks help it could be the case. A drink for me gives me a bad migraine within 10 mins of drinking it so I definately can't touch alcohol. Make sure that you mention to the Dr that after a few drinks it does seem to take the pain away a bit.

Sorry that I can't offer anything else to you apart from we understand and feel free to post your concerns here. We are in the ssame boat. Let us know what he/she says when you see them.

The last few weeks I have been to the neurologist twice and had an MRI on my head completed. The film showed no problems with my head. The neurologist told me that I have occipital neuralgia. I have been prescribed 25mg of indocin three times a day which is supposedly an inflammatory. He also gave me neck exercises to do a few times a day as well as suggesting that I get neck massages as well. I go back to see him in a month. Does anybody out there have any familiarity with occipital neuralgia?

Thanks,

I found your remarks about alcohol interesting and familiar. When I used to have tension headaches I found a couple of beers often made them go away. Once I started getting migraines the beer quit working. Now if I try one it does not help. The migaine does not always get worse but a good deal of the time it does.
