For the past, about
a little more than half a year, I've been getting ice pick headaches. Mostly on my right temple, but it does happen on my left and eyebrow and eye. I've come here to ask your opinions on what might trigger them, and maybe help you out on ideas if you suffer with these painful stabs.
Last February, I got into a car accident. I had no concussion, but I did have a lingering headache for about
2 days because the other car slammed into the right passenger door, and I took the impact. That summer I complained about
being off balance, and I discovered I had an ear infection and was given amoxicillin. I broke out in hives before the week I needed to take it for was over, but I regained my balance. A little while later I became off balance again, but no infection.
Before the ear infection diagnosis, I got pain in my left eye while on the computer. I brushed it off as eye strain, and that I was tired (which I really was). Around August I was just finished with eating dinner when I felt my first real ice pick headache on the right temple. It came twice, a few seconds long with a minute between the two. I still felt it occasionally later, though not as strong.
Since then its been a struggle, but I'm still living. They're not terribly excruciating, but sometimes it hurts pretty bad. I'm not sure if my equilibrium has anything to do with it, but I might as well include it just in case. I had an MRI done, and they told me I had a perfect brain (I felt flattered lol), the MRI given after having 3 consecutive, though mild aura migraines from extreme stress (the last time I had one was when I was 9, during state tests, I swear it's always during testing).
I have a few ideas on what might cause them from my little diary:
- Clenching my jaw, teeth grinding. I find myself sometimes with my jaw tight together, and I'm not sure about
grinding but I won't count it out.
- Wisdom teeth. I'm one of those lucky people who have never gone to the dentist, and my wisdoms are currently growing in. If they're impacted, they could be striking a nerve. My top right is the furthest out, where most of my stabs occur.
- Stress/hormones. I'm more susceptible to the stabs when I'm tired.
- BHT. I noticed this causes headaches in some. I have a tube of soft lips which has it as an ingredient and I notice when I use it the night before I get stabs the next day.
I'm female, 17 years young and I got a life to live. Thanks for reading my little story, and please do tell what you think.
EDIT forgot to mention I was told I got whiplash, so I might have a pinched nerve in my neck and I need realignment.
