There doesn't seem to be a "brain injury" forum, but I guess this comes close. I'd really appreciate some help on this, any input at all. I suffered a viral illness that crept into my brain over a year ago, which was about the most horrible experience imaginable. I've been to neurologists and I've had an MRI, but there was a long delay in getting a diagnosis; the recent MRI I got has come back "normal", which is frustrating to me, given that I have to live with the headaches, brain fog, fatigue, and permanently damaged vision. I've also had a "visual evoked potential" (VEP) test, which to my shock came back "normal". I mean, my vision is absolutely disastrous (my eyes themselves are physically fine) so I thought the VEP would surely detect some damage. But it didn't.

So now I'm left with the question: is there any other test, perhaps a SPECT scan or EEG, that might be able to pick up some sign of the damage? Can anybody suggest what the next step might be? I understand it may be tempting to tell me to just move on, but please understand I really need this.

EEGs may, cat scan may, or even a spinal tap. but the trick is... you may just have to go on living, do your best to find what's going on, don't stop finding new specialists. try headache clinics, mayo or Cleveland clinic, our preventive medicine may be what you need. listen to your doctor's abs if you don't like what they have to say, try new ones. never truly give up fighting. I struggle everyday even though all of my tests come back normal but I keep fighting,I keep working towards new goals. good luck.

Thank you. And I second all of that.

PS: I'll just add that I found great relief from a ketogenic diet--and it's reputed to be excellent for migraines. Just in case you haven't looked into it, but I bet you probably have...
