I am 58 -year old woman and have partial temporal epilepsy- Epilepsy was diagnosed at peri-menopause. It never was bad one grandmal a year in the spring. I started on Topomax several years ago- Topomax totally controlled my seizures, but I started having these really odd events- I became very disoriented and afterwards exhausted. It took me months to regain my memory and mental acuity. I’ve been referred to Psychiatrists who have diagnosed me as Bipolar II. This diagnosis has never sat well with my therapist who has known me well for 20 years or my close friend who is an ER Dr and sees lots of mentally ill patients in the hospital. I have been given medications for two mood stabilizers that do not have any impact on the ongoing periodic “odd” feeling. I first feel a bit of agoraphobia and then a bit dizzy (In fact I have been falling down) and then I feel like my scalp is contracting and all my muscles are really tight. When this is all over I am glued to the couch and paralyzed. I wonder could I be having migraines? Does this sound consistent? I know Topomax is used to cure people’s migraines, but could it have changed the flavor of mine? I’d so much appreciate your insight-
I’m going to need to ask forcefully to see a Headache Dr. – but only if it looks like it makes sense.
(I'm aware BPII may be comorbid- don't want to be in denial- just not sure that shoe fits)
The brain is so confusing!!! This looks like a very well informed site-
