mad  Hi,

I still haven't heard anything from the pain team about me having an appointment with them. When I spoke to them before they received my referral, they said that it would be a 4-6 week wait on the list. Now I am saying in my head that I can't stand these daily headaches any longer and am pretty desperate but on the other hand I am trying to say to myself that I have put up with these for 19 yrs now so what is another 6 weeks. Right. And what if they can't do anything for me anyway. What if all they say is try more Physio or try all these alternative therapies. I want something to cure this, I know that all of you probably feel the same.

It is hard though. I have two little girls under the age of 3 1/2 yrs and I feel that my life is wasting away. I don't lay around in bed ever, even when I have a full blown migraine because I just have to get on with the day. I sometimes don't know how I get through the day. I am just waiting for the day that I don't have to worry about planning a day out and wondering if I am going to have a bad migraine on that particular day.

Very rarely do I ever feel sorry for myself for anything but when it comes to headaches and pain all I think of is "why me?"

Sorry for going on and on. Suppose I need to vent.

Thanks for listening. Don't know what time it is where you all are (it is 11:15pm in Australia), but thankyou for taking the time to listen.

Hi Trace. Sorry you're feeling so bad. Don't ever worry about having to vent. We all feel the same way from time to time.

I'm sure 6 weeks seems like forever, when you were getting your hopes up about finally getting some treatment that might work for you. Whenever we start a new medicine, it's the same thing, you know? We think "Maybe this one will end the pain." and then you wait and wait, and sometimes have to try something else, and play that waiting game again.

I know finances are a real problem for you, Trace. Do you have any discount drug programs in Australia? Is it possible to set up a monthly payment plan with a pharmacy so you can get some pills that might help to stop the really bad migraines?

What about your doctor's office? Here in the United States, sales people from drug companies come to the doctors' offices regularly and leave samples of prescriptions that the drug companies want the doctors to prescribe. The doctors can give those samples to their patients for free. My doctor does this for me when I run out before my next shipment arrives. (I get my meds from a mail order pharmacy because my insurance gives a much lower rate than when I use the local drug store.)

It must be especially difficult to get a bad migraine and not be able to lie down and really relax for an hour or so, because you have two little girls. I can just imagine all the fun they're having. Running around, giggling and squealing with laughter. My "little girl" just graduated from high school in June!  Do you have a friend, neighbor, relative, who could come over for a couple of hours on your bad migraine days? Anyone who could help while you lie down with a cold cloth over your eyes in a nice dark room?

I'd offer, but it would take me too long to get there tongue   Besides, I'd probably have a migraine, too.

You wrote your letter when it was 11:15pm in Australia. It posted here at 8:15am on 7/13. Keep writing, Trace. It helps.

Thanks, we do have samples at Dr's here to. But usually they don't have the drug that I need. I do get pharmacy benefits with meds sometimes. If it is a anti-epileptic drug that isn't authorised for headaches then I am not covered. So some drugs I am covered. I am just hoping for a miracle when I go to the pain clinic, which I pretty much know won't happen.

Thanks for your reply.

What a shame! A perfectly good drug has been found to work for more than one purpose, but insurance says No. How unfair!

I heard recently that Minoxidil was originally developed for high blood pressure. Men who had significant hair loss started growing hair. Rogaine with Minoxidil was developed and now there is a completely new product for helping balding men to regrow hair.

Science is constantly expanding and drugs are found to be effective in more than one way. It's a real shame that insurance companies can't or won't keep up! confused

Unfortunately Trace there is not cure yet...There are lots of medication though that can reduce your frequency and migraine intensity though. Just try to hang in there and do what you can until the appt time is here. Little things even, try ice on your head, take a warm bath, have quiet time with the kids...put in a kiddie movie and relax together...How about putting a sprinkler in the yard and letting them run through it while you lounge on a chair? Just trying to think of some ideas...

Hang in there, vent anytime and let us know if there is anything we can do!
