Yesterday afternoon I had a unusual headache. I've gotten bad headaches before, but I've never seen anything like this.

It was about 6pm. I was reading a book when I noticed I felt funny. I was having a bit tougher of a time reading the letters. I then noticed that my vision was kind of blurry, especially on the right side. It looked kind of like a dream, and I assumed I must have been tired. about 5 minutes later a shape slowly appeared. It looked kind of like a lightning bolt, starting at the right, extending to the center of my field of view. It had black and white zig-zags flashing on the inside of the bolt. It looked kind of like an old tv, with the static. It would sometimes appear colorful. It was kind of blocking my vision, I couldn't see certain letters to the right of my focus. It was in both eyes. If I closed my eyes, I could still see it. I freaked out and thought I should call the doctor. Instead, I waiting for a while, seeing if it would go away. It went away 10-15 minutes later, but when it went away, I started to get a bad headache that was getting worse. It wasn't the worst headache I've ever had, it was actually somewhat tolerable. It felt kind of throbbing, in my forehead. I then managed to go to sleep. I woke up an hour ago, and I feel fine. What was that weird shape? Is it something to worry about?

it's just an aura. certain types of migraines start out with them. if you google "migraine with aura" there's a ton of information online. i personally get the same exact thing as you. the weird, lightning bolt shaped aura that blocks about half of my vision. after that goes away, i get a bad migraine. nothing really to worry about, it's actually pretty common!
