This is going to be lengthy-but only because I want to be thorough. I'm 24 years old and over all healthy. Growing up I never had headache. Well at the end of this May (2013) I got off of work and the second I walked in the door I was "attacked" but a severe sharp instantaneous headache. It was so severe I had to lay down at once. It was sharp and right behind me eyes/eyebrow ( let me mention now I use to have sinus problems so I know sinus headaches- these are not it) after an hour of excruciating pain I contemplated calling for an ambulance- btw I was in that much pain. My first thought was "omg, am I having a migraine?!" I was having a hot flash, I was dizzy and super nauseas. I never vomit but I felt horrible sick. I layed in a cool dark quite room and waited for it to pass. I sobbed for hours until finally I found comfort in sleep. I woke up the next morning feeling off. My head was still hurting- totally bareable at this point. I went to get up and suddenly I can't get up. I have zero energy. When I say I was drained - that's an understatement. I felt as if I had ran a marathon and lost 1/2 my blood supply. The amount of weakness I was feeling was unreal. The nausea and dizziness and weakness accompanied but a now dull head ache lasted 2-3 days before I was "me" again. ......now with that said I get these "attacks" 2-3 times a week and I'm miserable. I haven't seen a dr due to lack of insurance but that will change in nov. these headaches are worse than excruciating and NOTHING helps. I've tried diet changes, every OTC medicine possible( which always Makes it worse) I've tried caffeine, water ect I've tried it all. Can anyone help? These are ruining my life. If it happens at work I have to leave immediately and call mother to come pick me up and drive me home because these headaches literally disable me. I have a high pain tolerance, but these can't compare to anything. I don't know how it's possible to be alive and feel that much pain and live. I can't do this anymore I just can't. Please please help. Also the pain in normally located to the right side behind eye and eyebrow and sometimes feels like my eye is going to explode. Please does anyone know what this is. Any help is appreciated until I see a Dr which should be here in te next 2 weeks

Click on my user name, I've posted umpteen times about the dangers of artificial sweeteners/aspartame and the connection to migraines. If you drink diet drinks, or crystal light, 5 hour energy drinks, chew Dentynne or any gum sold at grocery stores, eat Yoplait light yogurt, any food item labeled fat free or sugar free, harmful, toxins (ie artificial sweeteners) are in these items. You are consuming these on a daily basis (if indeed this is your situation). Go off these food and drink items, and stay off of them. Artificial sweeteners are in a lot of medications too - such as sugar free laxatives and fiber supplements, etc.

If you want to rid yourself of these toxins, you need to read each and every food and drink (also medication) label from now on. Candy is not excluded from this category either. FYI, aspartame hides under a slew of other names, Nutra Sweet, Phenylalanine, Acesulfame-K, or Ace, Amino Sweet, Aspartic Acid, Methanol (wood glue), Sweet One. Just google aspartame and migraine headaches. You'll be shocked to learn this toxin is in so many of our food items now. It's scary.

Finally, caffeine may be the culprit (even though you mentioned it). I started having migraines at age 16, I am now 58. Due to another health dx in the past 4 months, I have gone off caffeine as well as aspartame. I now no longer have headaches - ever. First time in 42 years. My doctors would ask me what my routine was when a migraine would start so I said - a Pepsi (not diet), salty snack such as saltines or pretzels, and Vanquish (contains caffeine). He just said - you were in a vicious cycle, break it, now. I'm glad I listened to him.

I also drink 3 quarts of water each day. That is making me feel so much better too. I have 2 glasses of water upon awakening each morning, that's 16 ounces of water. Try that simple habit and see if you might feel better. Maybe you are not consuming ~enough~ water each day?

Slevanger,

1) I am not doc
2) I am not diagnosing you

BUT it sounds like something you research and look into is Cluster Headaches...

I know a lot about these first hand. They are beyond any possible description. One piece of possible hope is that many people who have these get them is "clusters" and they can go away for a long time or forever at any time....Some think they seasonal and I agree....for me, when daylight changes one way or other like last week when we turned back the clocks I was a little worried...If you reply to this post put my email in my profile...I can at least be there if have an attack and just want to scream - good luck
