I have been having a pretty bad headache as well as fainting the last month. I was convinced there was something seriously wrong with me, especially since I have lupus. I see a naturopath and see suggested that I drink more water and exercise more. Has anyone been told this before? I plan to try her recommendation.. but it seems too easy.

At first glance it does seem too easy, when we're used to doctors getting out their Rx pads to treat complaints.

I can tell from my personal experience, that drinking 3 quarts of water a day has really helped me. If you read my bio, I also purged my body of caffeine, aspartame and all artificial "sweeteners" (actually neurotoxins). This was because I had been diagnosed with meniere's disease back in August (lost 50% of my hearing overnight in one ear). My ENT specialist suggested that I was probably dehydrated and needed a lot more water, not just a glass or two a day but quarts, as in plural. He also made the connection to my 42 history of having migraines. He said caffeine and aspartame were to be avoided like the plague, my ringing in my ear and over all well being would greatly improve if I got off both chemicals.

After I got off caffeine and aspartame, and drained a 1 quart plastic pitcher at least 3 times a day, I began to feel a lot better.

I no longer woke up with a headache. In fact, I no longer experience headaches.

Water is boring to drink though so I just stand at the kitchen sink and down glasses of it.

Word of caution, do not buy the crystal light powdered packs or small bottles of flavorings for tap water - they all contain aspartame and this chemical induces 92 dire and very serious side effects - one of the 92 is migraines.

If you want to flavor your water, just add a little freshly squeezed lemon or orange juice.

I commend you on finding a great doctor!

Thank You! I was really doubting her, but after we had a chance to talk about my symptoms it seemed like she was really taking my issues into consideration. Right now I am trying my best to incorporate drinking water into my day. I'd really love to go a day without a headache and confusion! I also pulled out the Wii and started playing a dance game just to get some exercise in. I'm really optimistic for improvement in the next few weeks.

Make sure you are not unknowingly ingesting aspartame/Nutra-Sweet in your diet. Another name for it is phenylalanine, it's in 5 hour energy shots, 90% of gum and breath mints, light yogurt, etc. Beware of this chemical, it wreaks havoc in the brain (causes brain cancer and seizures too).

I went out and bought a 1 qt Rubbermaid plastic pitcher for iced water. Over the summer when I was home more I made sure I drained it 3 times, once by noon, twice by 6 pm and then I tried my best to drain it one more time before bedtime.

I really did feel much better when I was fully hydrated.

I read somewhere on these headaches topics a member recommends adding a tablespoon of cider vinegar to water. Do a search, maybe that would help you too.

Good luck!

I generally try to stay away from the artificial sweeteners anyways because they taste funny. =) IF anything, I use xylitol. I forgot that they could cause headaches though! My headaches got a little better for a while but in Feburary it became unbearable and I had to get some fresh air. I think my home had some sort of toxin in it. I moved out and started feeling a little better, but the headaches still persisted. Now, after completing a round of antibiotics, I am trying to detox my body with veggies, good fats and some protein. I've cut back my carbs and increased my water. I'm also supplementing with magnesium. So far the headaches have gotten a lot better. I was running out of options and I was having trouble working.

Mar sky, thank you for your info. I too have experienced sudden loss of hearing in my left ear on and off for a while. My naturopath gave me vertigoheel and told me to drink water, water, water. I thought I was drinking enough due to my ostomy but apparently not. Will increase intake today and cut out caffeine as well as sweeteners and see if that helps.

Thank you.

larasmom - sorry to learn of your sudden hearing loss. Mine was there one day, gone the next (not completely but significantly). I notice that if I refrain from caffeine and drink only water, and a lot of water, the ringing or roaring in my left ear is nearly gone. It's wonderful but hard to pull off, currently enjoying one cup of coffee in the morning with caffeine. Have tried caffeine free but hubby like regular coffee and it smells so good sometimes, I indulge but then drink a lot of water to hopefully dilute it internally.

I have vowed not to have aspartame in my system and it's a sneaky little chemical, you really need to read every single label. It's in children's meds - Augmentin, Pedialyte, vitamins - that was shocking to discover.

I will say I don't really like water, so I just down glass after glass at the kitchen sink, if I am home I try to drink a glass each hour or more.

I hope you find relief.
