I have suffered from horrific migraines for twenty years (except during my pregnancy and for a few years afterward). They are clearly menstrual migraines as they occur once every 12-14 days along my cycle. Naratriptan does help with the pain, but I still lose a day once every two weeks. I want to try to prevent them completely. Unfortunately, I seem to be very sensitive to medication and have only found one thing that worked and it was temporary.

Here is what I have tried:

Nadolol - I had a terrible side effect after only one day. My hands were numb and my blood pressure went crazy. Quit.

Amitryptaline - After three days, I had a strange side effect where I felt like I had to urinate all the time, even when I didn't. Then on day four, I woke up and my lower lip was completely swollen. It seemed like some sort of allergic reaction, so I quit.

Exercise alone - no effect.

Magnesium supplement plus exercise - This WORKED. Like really worked. I had no migraines for 47 days, the longest of my life. And then, suddenly, it stopped working. I went back to my regular migraine schedule.

I was thinking of trying 5-HTP and that google search is what led me to this forum. I'm just wondering if anyone out there had advice or had successfully prevented their menstrual migraines.

Thank you.

I'm not sure if this will be helpful to you, but I take birth control continuously (I literally never stop it) to prevent cycle-related headaches and migraines. If I stop taking the pill for even a day, I will have continuous head pain for several days following.

Same here. I just wrote a post called headache/migraine free, and I'm in a hurry.
Worked for me
And I forgot to write that it close to erased my cellulite in 4 weeks. :)
