I have suffered from migraines for years but when I got pregnant with my daughter 7 years ago at 35, my migraines got worst. For the last 3 year my migraines have gone from periodically to almost every day. If the headaches are not from stress they come from my sinuses. Something is always causing my pain. I am so physically and emotionally drained that I don't know what else to do. I am under a neurologist care and we have done every test there is but the answer its always the same "its just migraines". I hate when they say that as if its an insignificant thing. They don't realize that when I get those horrible headaches you know the ones that make you beg for mercy then ones that make you think no way possible a brain could stand so much pain and scared to fall asleep because you think you just might not wake up. Yet they say its just a migraine. I look at myself in the mirror and I don't recognize the person I have become and no matter how hard I try to be as normal as possible the pain is always there to remind me who is in charge. I have become a very sentimental person. I could be watching TV and all of the sudden start to cry and then I realize a headache is coming and its going to be a bad one. My doctor doesn't know what else to do for me and I feel like I am on my own to find what can make me better. I have already realized certain foods are triggers but only if I eat them continuously. I can no longer wear perfume or be around scent, I hate that part because I love perfume and I love to have scented stuff in my home. I can not exercise because the movement makes my head start pounding. Alcohol is out of the question so there goes "Happy Hour". I really don't know what else to do. I have a migraine diary that helped me figure most of my headaches come thanks to my nose or stress. Does anyone have any suggestions on what else I can do. I drink water all day I am on topemax 50 mg, I take fioricet for pain but for the bad ones I take Maxalt 10mg or have to go to hospital.

Hi,

Sorry to hear about your pain. Migraines are not "just migraines" it's a neurological chronic disease that affects your life physically, emotionally, socially and even work ability. So people that minimize our struggle ought to live one day in our life. Maybe it's time to get a second opinion or another dr that u can talk to and trust that emphathizes with you and is willing to try different treatment approaches.

There is accupuncture, massage, Physical Therapy, Chiropractic, nerve blocks, Botox injections and even a new FDA approved TENS to deactivate the trigeminal nerve called Cefaly. Not covered by insurance yet so it's $250 out of pocket.
I caution against using too many pain pills bc that was my downfall. I got dependent on RX oxycodone & the rebound migraines were constant. I'm off of them now thank God but it took years to do it.
Good luck,

K8ty
