I joined this forum when I saw some info about using • Gabapentin (Neurontin) instead of topamax. I need to find a substitute, can you connect me to the thread for this topic?

Hi Judy, my wife was having reactions to Topamax so he doctors just have her zonegran as a preventative . It's supposed to be alot like Topamax but she hasn't been having any negative reactions yet. To be fair it's only been a few days but it would be worth you looking into

I've been on both, and got off both. The topamax definitely helped but had a lot of negative side effects. With the gabapentin, I was unable to maintain the necessary dose (1800-2400mg/day) due to side effects. At one point I was on Topamax, Lyrica, and Gabapentin, but I've gotten off all of them because the side effects were worse than the benefit. I'm getting Botox shots now.

As a side note, many of my initial side effects from Topamax (e.g., tingling/numbness in hands and feet) went away within a month or so. The brain fog that set in was debilitating though. I couldn't think straight, had a hard time focusing, etc.
