Hello,

You may know me from some of my posts on this message board about my headaches and the frustrations I've had with preventative medications.

I recently read a book called Heal Your Headache. The 1-2-3 Program. It provides a migraine diet. I've been following and feeling a little bit better, though I had a migraine most of the week.

When I started all this I was having headaches about once or twice a week and now I'm up to daily headaches with horrible side effects from the medications I take.

Has anyone stopped all the medications and tried diet and alternative ways to control / stop their headaches?

Thanks for your thoughts.

Hello,

I have stopped all my medications and only take aleve now for headaches. Most of my headaches were rebound or  stress related.

I have had headaches for 10+ years. Took every medication out there, did botox, biofeed back, accupunture etc.

Finally I am trying life w/o drugs. Scary but i just don't see why it is neccessary. People lived for thousands of years w/o them!

I get fewer headaches now.  I was getting them daily now it is only 1-2 a week if that.

LEt me know if you have any questions.

Yes, people lived for thousands of years without the types of drugs that we have available to us now. But they worked diligently to find helpful medicines from nature. And when nature had nothing to provide, people lived in misery. Or they died at a very young age.

I applaud your desire to live a life without drugs.

Nicky, I wish you all the luck in the world. Let us know how you're doing.

Hi everyone,

I've had migraines for a number of years, and at one point I also stopped taking the medication I was given. For a while after I had some success with ibuprofen and unintentionally with an exercise supplement I bought from gnc containing arginine. I have since stopped taking both of these on a regular basis, but I've also had some success by restricting the caffeine and alcohol intake in my diet.

Recently, though, I've done really well with two nutritional supplements-Vitamin B2, which I also bought from gnc, and a health drink made from the Mangosteen fruit, which is native to Southeast Asia (I buy this directly from the company). I had heard/read that both these have really good success rates with migraines, and I haven't had a migraine since I began with these-which was about a month and a half ago. I also really like the idea of being able to take something natural and have it work better than the medicines I took, which had a number of side effects.

Anyways, I don't want to write too much but I have done a bunch of research on this and if anyone wants to know more feel free to contact me at the email address in my profile.

I hope this is helpful.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I am slowly easing off my pain killers and limiting the preventative medications I am on to Topamax, Nadolol and Celexa with Botox injections. I have also started taking some natural supplements. If I don't have success this way I'm going to look at stopping the preventative medications as well.

I've had fewer headaches in the first 3 weeks and am feeling better.
