I have been on topamax for 6 weeks back to 75 mg after working up to 100 mg ( for 1 week only) and have had severe memory loss. My doctor recommended a few days ago to drink 1 tsp of baking soda in a glass of water twice a day.

It is helping! Has anyone heard of this or tried this? I was thinking of stopping the medication but now have hope?

Hi JLynne

I have never heard of this, though may try it if it works. I hate forgetting things, especially words. I feel like a moron half the time. I'm at 75 mg and about to increase 1/2 tablet a day. I was up to 200 mg but came back down because the side effects were so bad. Going up very slowly seems to also minimize the side effects.

I try and remember this each day I have a headache that I'm not sure I can overcome.

Hello,

As I was reading your message I read it to my husband. He said, that's just Soda Water, which made me think. One of the cravings I have on Topamax is Club Soda and / or Perrier. I could drink it all day. When I don't take Topamax I don't go near either as I find them distasteful. I wonder if the cravings are related and if the Club Soda or Perrier would have the effects as drinking Baking Soda. To be honest drinking Baking Soda sounds disgusting.
