Hi. I'm a member of the chronic pain forum but new on the migraine forum. I've suffered with migraines for years. I currently take topamax daily and naratriptan for a migraine. Although they have not been working for the past 2 weeks. I've had a migraine that just wouldn't break.

I saw my nuerologist on Wednesday. They did trigger point injections in the back of my neck and shoulders and gave me iv meds. They gave me toridol, depakote and a steroid. I left still with a headache and called the doctors office yesterday and they called me in a script for prednisone. So I started that yesterday and my headache is finally starting to improve.

I don't get the auro with my migraines but I do get the light sensitivity with the painful headache.

Sorry to hear you are suffering so much! I certainly hope that the migraine is much better, if not gone, by now!!

I was getting severe migraines daily for months and months and months. Finally, a few years ago, was able to get in for treatment at a headache clinic. We have figured out a combination of preventative meds, botox injections, lifestyle changes, and rescue meds that have cut the # of migraines down from 30 a month to an average of 2-3 (much less severe) migraines a month. Obviously everyone is different, and what works for one person may not work for another, but maybe you need to explore some other/new options in your treatment.

I don't know much about your migraines, how often you get them, or how they affect you, but if you would like to "talk" more, I'd be happy to share my story, help any way I can, or just listen if you want to vent. I know how frustrating it can be, and how it really robs you of your life. It sounds like you do have a good neurologist, which is awesome! When you have the energy, be sure to keep pushing and searching for a better answer to the problem. Don't settle for just "getting by". You've got a life to get back to living.

Let me know if I can be of any help!

Good luck and take care!!

I normally do really well with the meds I'm on. I used to have migraines daily. They weren't horribly painful except on occasion but still when you have them everyday they take their toll. Since I've been on the topamax I've been doing much better. I can actually go awhile without a headache and then take the naratriptan when I do get one. The naratriptan takes a little bit to kick in but it works.

I haven't had a migraine that's lasted like this one since before I was put on the meds and it's only happened once before. The prednisone is definitely helping. I'm only about halfway through it and my headache has improved. Still have a minor headache but it's getting better.

Thanks for the response and I would love to hear your story.
