I encourage everyone to give as much as you can to help the refugees from the Hurricane Katrina disaster in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and elsewhere.  This is the largest natural disaster to ever strike the United States and it looks like help will be needed for a long time to come.  If we all pull together and give, we can make a difference in people's lives.

Below are some suggested relief funds and charities:

American Red Cross (1-800-HELP-NOW)

United Way (1-800-272-4630)

The Salvation Army (1-800-SAL-ARMY)

Operation Blessing (1-800-436-6348)

America's Second Harvest (1-800-344-8070)

For more ways on how you can help, see the following FEMA web site:

Please, Please help.

Prayers are needed, too.

An entire Army reserve base located on the Gulf Coast was wiped out. One member of that unit and his family live in Baton Rouge, LA They are friends of mine. They haven't been able to locate any other soldiers from that base. Kevin, Donna and their 2 children have taken in a couple and their baby, whose apartment was destroyed. They no jobs to go back to.

Their neighborhood is filled with people wandering with no where to go. People have no money to buy food for their children, diapers for their babies. Many have not found their way to shelters yet.

I have other people who are lost. We hoped they would touch base with Kevin and Donna. But they, too, have been unable to locate many of their friends. Even cell phones aren't working. And there are no places to re-charge them. We can only pray that they have survived and found shelter.

I've temporarily changed the Donate link across HW to point to the Red Cross web site. Every bit counts.
