Hi. New here, I have been trying to find a reason why I wake up between 4 and 6 amvwth a freakin migraine! It is every day for a week. This hapens at least twice a month. I have migraines during mid day or at night too. But if I wake with it might as well call it a day. I cant get it to go away. I want to vomit, cry, sleep... it usually is above my right eye and in the back of my head just at the bottom of the skull on the right side.
I can talk to people if I pack my head with ice. It makes it numb enough to think. I used to take Imatrex, topamax. But they just dont do anything. I tell the doctors they don't work and they seem mad or dont believe me..
I have a migraine now..trying to get rid of it.. I have plans with the family, don't want to disappoint them again. I have taken just bc powder this morning at 530. A friend called said to drink mt. Dew. Trying that. I just want to know why... then fix it, not to wake again with one.
Thanks for helping

welcome to the forum.

Stay away from the caffine, it has a boomarang effect and will make the headaches worse.

Make an appointment with a neurologist from a well known hospital for a correct diagnosis.

Also, check out the migraine diet, there is a link in the resource thread at the top of the forum.

I don't think I can offer much except sympathy/empathy. My migraines can hit at any time, but my worst ones seem to happen around the same time as yours, usually about 4 or 5 am. My suspicion is that I'm sleeping so deeply at that point, that the pain has to get really bad for me to wake up, and at that point, it's too strong for imitrex/sumatriptan and fioricet (even with codeine) to help. I had one of those hit Sunday that I actually went to the hospital for. Probably going to post about it later. They gave me toradol and IV fluids, and that finally made a difference. I think it took about an hour, but it cleared it up. I now have toradol tablets on hand just in case.

Are we the same person? JK.

I wake up with the back of the head pain more often than the behind the right eye pain. Thankfully for me, tylenol + imitrex + caffeine usually does the trick. If I wake up at 4 with the right eye pain I need to get the imitrex down. For all other situations I can stay in bed and get up at my regular 6 am alarm, take the tylenol, shower, drink my tea....but if the eye pain starts I have to have the imitrex in order to get relief.

I attribute all of this to perimenopause. My migraines started around age 45. I'm now 52 and still not in menopause (but almost!). I have very strong memories of my mom at age 50 having migraines in her right eye also. They ended for her when she stopped menstruating so I am hopeful.
