Can anybody provide me with success stories regarding safely getting pregnant and managing migraines? I have suffered from migraines for about 15 years now. about a year ago, after working with a neurologist, I found my concoction of preventives and abortives to treat my migraines and get them down to about 1-2 a week. However, starting in January, I began to wean myself off of my preventives so that I can get pregnant ( topamax, amitriptyline, Tizanidine, and Lexapro). Since going off of these meds, I started having headaches 5-6 times a week. I found that Sumitriptan Injections and Toradol would work but I still got them frequently and these medicines too are unsafe when your pregnant.
My neorologist told me that I was becoming dependent on the sumitriptan and that was actually causing my headaches. He suggested that I try to break this cycle. After 2 painful weeks, I'm happy to report that I made it through it with only taking Toradol 1 day and sumatriptan 1 day. Although I feel I broke the cycle, I still face migraines multiple times a week, just not as severe.
I'm scheduled to be admitted this week for a week long hospital stay. I'm just concerned what they can do for me? Even though I'm extremely grateful that Sumitriptan works I just feel that I won't be able to manage the migraines without medication until I get pregnant!
Has anyone had any success getting pregnant with migraines? He started me on magnesium which I hope will help.
