I have had a constant headache for over 2 years now. My life has completely been put on hold and I only leave my house for (frequent) doctors appts. I've tried EVERYTHING, so please don't ask me if I've tried "such and such". Trust me, I have. (LOTS of natural treatment too)

Who has had an experience with hospitalization with DHE to break the cycle? My neurologist told me this is his last and only recommendation for me. No medication has worked, and most of them I can't tolerate due to my sensitive system. That's why I'm extra worried about DHE,,, he wants to do DHE, Depakote (also IV), and the anti nausea pill with these. I've heard some horrible experiences and afraid I will have the same luck. I am 22 F, diagnosed with POTS & EDS, I have a blood clotting gene & am a poor serotonin transporter. I can't take any more pills... My body and my mental state is exhausted and falling apart. I would love to hear some hopeful stories.

I know nothing about DHE.

However, I am having some success with meditation and yoga for pain. It has taken months but in the past few weeks a few days a week my pain level comes down to a 3-5 which is tolerable.

I've had the DHE infusion, about 4-5 years ago as an outpatient, do not admitted.  I had to go every day for I think 7 days.  It made me incredibly sick and I didn't complete the last infusion day because I was so sick.  However, it gave me a HUGE amount of relief,  For the first time in years I was migraine free.  Unfortunately the migraines eventually came back.  I couldn't tell you how long I had relief for, can't actually remember.  It isn't available anymore where I live otherwise I would give it another try.
I had a lot of success with cafergot when it was on the market, so that was a good indicator for my neurologist that the DHE may work.  Cafergot can still be compounded, even though the pill isn't available in most tablets. So perhaps ask your neurologist about trying compounded cafergot or another ergotamine-based medication before committing to the DHE.

I did a 5 day inpatient iv DHE treatment about one year ago. It did not work and made me feel very sick. I have read that many people have to do it a couple of times to get result. I am considering trying again. Good luck! hope that was helpful!

I had the DHE IV infusion at Johns Hopkins 2 years ago. It was horrible. I am still dealing with every day constant migraines, and like you, have tried literally everything. The DHE infusion was inpatient and for 5 days. My veins were so sore after the first couple of days that they had to bring in a specialist to find a vein elsewhere because the needles kept popping out. It helped my migraine down to a level 2 pain, but as soon as I was discharged, I was at my normal 6+ pain level again. It may work for some people, but I don't think it is worth the pain and time. Hope this helps!

I suffered from constant migraines and tried everything too. I tried the DHE as an inpatient for 5 days. It helped and bought headaches down to a 2-3. This was a huge break for me. It last only for a couple of weeks but I welcomed the break.

about a month later I was admitted for an 8 day treatment for the DHE. I left with out a headache. 2 days later I had appendicitis ( nothing having to do with the other just bad luck!). I was headache free for almost 2 months. I would do it again in a second.

I also have have had Botox. My migraines have started coming back again, everyday. If I can not find a way to control them I would try the 8 day hospitalization stay. It was well worth it.

Best of luck
