I dont know what to do... long story short... felt like someone was hitting the top of my head w/ a hammer, went to the dr, gave me antibiotic, thinking it was a sinusinfection, headache went away for a week, can back, no pounding, just felt like a ton of bricks on my head. Went back to dr, sent me for a catscan, called me 20 mins later, said they think they saw an 8mm anuersym, sent to ER. After another catscan, an MRI, a spinal tap and 5 days in the hospital, they found nothing... Neuorlogist, last week truly believes it was "just a migraine" and it came back due to a rebound migraine. I had this 2 other times in my life, but just cried myself to sleep. Is pounding on the top of the head a sympton of a migraine!?

It can be, migraines can have pounding symptoms in various parts of your head, and can be different for each person who experiences them. It also depends sometimes on what causes them, for instance I have a spinal problem, so I get them, but without the auras that some people get with traditional migraines, and of course the traditional migraine meds won't work for me at all.

I am so sorry you had to go through that crap!  I have been there.  Wondering whats going on with MRI's, they have seen something, then they didn't, let's poke 'em in the spine and check that fluid out... Very frustrating (beyond that).  I hope you find relief soon.  My headache was (and somewhat still continues to be) more tension style.  Stiff/sore neck with dizzy spells.

Hello,
how are you doing ? have your headaches progressed, stopped : the latter would be the best. did you ever get a diagnosis ? your story between your doc and the hospit is discouraging. some migraines i get do have a throbbing or pulsating sensation, sometimes on one side of my head, left or right other times, front or back. when i get the worse headache, i just don't where it's pounding so i can't tell you about pounding on top of the head.
please take care

Hello,

I'm sorry to hear about your experiences. Pounding / throbbing is a symptom of migraines. It is a symptom I suffer from. It is unfortunate your doctors scared you with aneurysms and such without checking for a migraine first. The good thing about migraines is that their not fatal, just painful and there is pain relief.

Keep in touch. If you start to get more headaches, then it would be time to start a pain management plan with your doctor. There are lots of resources on this website about headaches. Sometimes just reading about them and knowing more helps.

Good luck.
