Hello everyone, I'm new here.

My doctor hasn't officially diagnosed me with anything but I have migraines. However, I don't think my migraines are normal. I can go weeks at a time without having any migraines at all, but when I do get them, they're very painful and can last anywhere between a day and 1 week.(When I get migraines for a week at a time, after its gone, it'll usually only be gone for a day or so before it comes back.) Sometimes I'll get a migraine, and still have it when I go to bed at night and when I wake up its gone. Sometimes certain smells can trigger these migraines. I don't get auras like some people, it just starts off either with just a small pain and grows into a excruciating pain. Or it just starts off terrible altogether. Nothing works not even extra strength Excedrin Migraine medicine (I didn't figure it would though). As for placement of the pain, I feel it all over in my head, but a lot of times it hurts more at the base of my neck. I'm so stuck as to what is actually wrong with me. My doctor has given me Propranolol, and previously I tried one (I forget the name) that made me very nauseous in which I had to take another prescription that was supposed to help the nausea, but in turn hurt my stomach really bad.
Any suggestions on what may be happening to me, because from what I'm reading, it doesn't sound like chronic migraines??
I just feel like its dangerous to put a 19 year old on a Beta Blocker..

Hello & welcome to Healing Well. Migraines are not the same for everyone. People have many different type of symptoms. I do suggest that you get a referral to a good neurologist & see what this dr. can do for you.

Take care.

Welcome to the forum.

I was on propranolol for years, now I am on topomax.

I also suggest you find a neurologist that specializes in migraines.

Keep a pain log on a calendar; pain level by day. 0-10, ten being the highest.

I suggest you check out the following like and seriously consider a change in diet if you are not eating healthy already.

stop soda, energy/power drink, all caffeine, drink water, at least 32oz away or more. But lemon in it. Buy natural juices if you can afford it, Vitamin Water, Bar.

No artificial colors, flavors, or processed food products.

You may have to try 2 medications at once to find the right balance.

Exercise helps, walking.
