This is the first year I have been sensitive to what I'm doing and eating and I realize I'm already in trouble. I realize that if I want to be awake to spend the holidays with my family I'm going to need to be diligent about what I eat. If you're anything like me, Christmas is associated with food and these foods are filled with migraine triggers. Here are some that I've found so far:
Christmas Food Migraine Triggers
Sausage Rolls
Turkey Stuffing
Turkey Gravy (package made)
Sausage
Cheese (aged)
Any Baking with Preservatives or Nuts
Alcohol
Chocolates
Christmas Cake (anything with dried fruit in it)
Christmas Pudding
I made the decision today that the important part of Christmas to me is spending time with family and friends. The food is nice but the migraine it triggered yesterday was off the charts and it took a lot of medication to stop it. I think because as long as the food was in my system it was triggering the migraine. Once the food was gone I was fine.
So I'm going to enjoy the veggie platter, the fruit tray, the turkey, mashed potatos, vegetables, my Perrier, and plain potato chips (my treat that doesn't trigger headaches) over the Christmas Holidays and still enjoy my family and friends.
I hope everyone else is able to do the same.
Merry Christmas!
