Hi all,

Listen, I am very interested in getting botox and I am looking for people to tell me what their experience has been with it.

I went for a facial yesterday and the girl mentioned it.

I am fairly young and do not suffer from wrinkles.  However, my headaches are 98% in my forhead right between my eye brows.  Making me think this could be the perfect solution for me

But I am hesitant to jump into it without hearing from people about it first.

Please post and let me know anything you know about it.

Especially if you have actually had it done yourself!

Thanks,

Lauren

Hello Lauren!

I´ve had a Botox- injection two times. It was when I was in a hospital that specialises in headaches. Other than a real bad muscle-ache in my back there were no side-effects. And that was only in the big muscles (Trapezius). There was no muscle-ache in my face. I´m sorry to say that it didn´t help my headache at all. But I felt the relaxation of my muscles.

And then my headache is very different from yours. It´s all over my head and includes my neck and face. So I still think there´s a very good chance it´ll help you. As you describe your pain it sounds as if there´s only the one muscle included. So you seem to be destinated for Botox!
I´ve heard of people that actually got rid of their headache due to Botox. And many come to "refresh" their injections on an ambulant basis. So there are many people that profite from it!

And if you decide to get this injection, try to find somebody who does it on a regular basis. For there must be some experience about how much to inject.

Hope this´ll help you a little!

Hey Lauren,

It doesn't really sound like you are having actual "migraine" attacts, unless you have consulted with a qualified physician and have benn diagnosed. If not, as described it sounds like tension related headaches, caused by anything from eyestrain, loud noise, or even allergies. You didn't mention if you had actually even seen a doctor about this problem or if you were taking any medication for the pain.  The more information you can include in your post, the more accurately we can give you suggestions.  The first big question is whether or not this problem is causing you to change the way you live you life more than 1 or 2 days a week.  If so you need to pursue this with a physician, start with a general practitioner, then get referred to a neurologist if necessary.

As for Botox, the shots are not cheap, and don't last very long. If you can find any other option of controlling your headaches, I would suggest going that way, as I doubt you would want to keep a routine of getting shots every few weeks for the rest of your life.  Not to mention, most all insurance companies view Botox as an elective procedure, thus, will not pay for any of the treatment.  There are a bazillion medications you could try to take for the problem, far less drastic than Botox, not to mention more economical than the shots.  The bottom line is that the jury is still out on the effectiveness of the drug.

Anyway, just my two cents worth.  Let us know how you are doing.

Hi Lauren!

I know it´s expensive. But I was taking part in a study, so I even was paid for it! I live in Germany and we have centers here that have studies running for most of the time so that I had no difficulty with that.

But I think Leigh Ann is right in most of her points. It´s important to have a proper diagnosis first! If you suffer from tension-type headache Botox still might be indicated. But unfortunately it´s true that one injection won´t do. You´ll need four or so a year. And it´s hundreds of dollars each. And there´s no guaranty!

Hope you´ll get hold of your headaches however you decide!
