Hello, this is my first time posting.  I am 26, female and have been getting headaches since I was 16.  My most recent started this past Sunday evening and didn't go away until yesterday (tuesday) afternoon.  I just got insurance so I made an appointment with a neurologist.  Do you think I should go to a regular doctor first?  I read online that a neurologist would probably be more experienced with treating headaches and wanted to get another opinion.  I figure after 10 years of suffering its time to try and find some treatment.  Has anyone out there found releif after going to a Dr. to get your migraines diagnosed?  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I went to a regular doctor for awhile, he wanted to try and treat me because his wife had migraines and he had succesfully diagnosed and helped her. After about a year however (mostly my fault it took so long - crappy health insurance and I was in college) he said "Theres nothing I can do for you, you should see a neurologist." Unless your family doctor has some experiance I think going straight to a professional is wise. I would suggest collecting as much information ahead of time as you can - do you know what triggers your migraines? any specific patterns? etc. Chances are you will spend your first half-hour there filling out paperwork answering those questions anywasy might as well think about it now :)

good luck

Ok, great, I will keep my appointment with him then. I don't even have a regualar doctor, just an ob/gyn i see regularly. I am not really sure of any patterns or triggers. I just started a headache diary when I got this last headache. I was never really sure if my headaches were always migraines because it always feels like really bad sinus pain around my eyes (no congestion or pressure just pain, they feel almost as if black and blue when touched) but it also hurts at the back of my neck where the head and neck meet and also like there is a vice on my head, then I started reading online that a lot of people get the really bad sinus pain during a migraine. I also get the nausea and sensitivity to light. A lot of times I wake up in the morning with them and they go away around noon or 1 pm and other times they start during the day or in the evening and then last into the next day.

Thanks for the advice.
