Hello all,

I have some questions and was wondering if anyone can provide some insight re: my new type of headaches. I have recently joined HW and posted on some of the forums for various things – I recently got diagnosed with Lupus and one of my new symptoms is these unusual headaches. I guess I’m trying to confirm if they are migraines or Lupus related. In all, I'm trying to figure my Lupus out.

I am a 34F, no children. I've developed headaches in the last 3 years, but they usually are short, sharp, and quick and respond well to Advil. They occur all over the head and I could have several in a day or just a few. I'm used to these types of headaches - they occur in spurts.

This new type of headache occurs first thing in the morning as I wake up. I feel ‘off’ right away upon standing. I feel the headache is exacerbated by walking. The headache is down my spine/neck/occipital region and builds in intensity when walking. I also feel flushed, sweats, nausea, weak, and a high heart rate – sort of chest pain. I feel slow at thinking or trouble thinking or foggy. I feel dizzy/vertigo-y and off balance a little. Just an unwell sensation. No sensitivity to light or vision changes…I do notice my feet feel weird and sort of pins/needles. Rest improves the headache, but does not totally resolve it.

I was admitted to the hospital during the month of Dec and after 3 CTs and 1 MRI (head) they found I have a 6mm lesion in the dura portion of head – this was only noticed on the MRI and not on any of the CTs. I also have a small prolactinoma that I am receiving treatment for. The neurologists could not confirm Lupus related or migraine headaches. They discharged me with no treatment, but with a follow-up to see a Neurologist who can further investigate - I don't have an appointment yet. They suggested either inflammation or low intra-cranial pressure. We did not do a LP at this time.

I guess my question is whether or not migraines feel this way?
Do you feel chest discomfort with your migraine? Or an increase in HR?
How do your headaches feel?

Also, If I ‘push’ thru the migraine and just try to do chores or tasks, is it dangerous?

Thank you so much for your time! Hope you all stay healthy!

Welcome Hope,

It is impossible to say if they are migraines.

Changes are the following are contributing to the pain.

The lesion

the lupus

stress, anxiety of the lupus diagnosis

I do not know about lupus but if you can drink at least 30oz of water a day, if possible to stay hydrated. Helps migraines. NO caffeine.

Working through a migraine is not dangerous, unless your sight is effected.

BOOK an appointment a Neuro ASAP. Talk all the test results and films or CD from the hospital .
Neuro can also give you melt away nausea medicine, that work great.

Also, you should talk to your lupus doc about how you are feeling, fears and worries and ask how that may be contributing to how you feel.

Peace and strength

Peace
